Re: Duplicate message to message originator #messages

Motti,

When a member of a group posts a new message topic, he receives the
email for this message twice in his inbox, this happens to all members
of our group.
That's odd. I haven't noticed anything of the sort when I post a new topic.

1) Did the member post the new topic using the New Topic page on the group's web pages, or by their email interface? Or does it happen either way?

2) Did the new topic appear twice in the group's Messages page (switch to Messages view to see them individually)?

Is this a setting I am missing? is this intended?
It is neither a setting nor intended.

Most of the explanations I can think of would affect replies also, or replies but not new topics.

For example Gmail. Depending on your settings you may see the copy of the message as you sent it, together with the copy of the message returned to you from the group. You can tell them apart because the one returned from the group will have the Groups.io footer at the bottom, whereas the "as sent" copy will not.

I have conversation mode turned off in Gmail, and that tends to prevent that problem, but introduces the opposite problem: I don't see my message at all (because the "as sent" is shown only in the Sent folder, not in my Inbox). However in my Groups.io account Preferences I have the "I always want copies of my own messages" box checked, which overcomes that problem.

But, as far as I know, that Gmail quirkiness would affect both new topics and replies alike. So that may not be the explanation for what you're seeing.

Shal
