Thank you for all this, Shal. You have been very helpful. And so quick!
For the first part I still have this message "We are in process of transferring your group. Depending on Yahoo and demand, this may take several days. You will be notified by email when the transfer is completed."
But maybe doing it again will quicken the process.
Also, now I have been through Settings and made the relevant corrections and requirements. I probably didn't expect anyone to join before we had migrated and expected to check through the settings details once we'd moved.
Thanks for the help, it's been very useful. Fingers crossed that the 'migration' goes ahead smoothly and brings everyone with it.?

It doesn't take months and months. Check the In Process page for your
transfer to see if there's any status message in a box at the top.

In the Spam Control section of your group's Settings page, see if the
"Restricted Membership" box is checked. If not, people may join freely.
If that box is checked have a look at the group's Activity page for any
entries related to that member. Enter the full email address of the
member into the search box and click the blue Search button if that will
help you find them. That should tell you something about how the member
joined.
