I'm surprised you've never seen a saxophone. Saxophones are ubiquitous.

I work at a restaurant called BJ's where I roll silverware. It's a tedious job, and it does a number on the hands and wrists, but at the end of the day, it's all worth it. I am looking forward to Monday, because I am playing music with a musician friend of mine. She plays piano and violin. I have never seen an actual saxophone up close. When I told my mom, that, she was surprised. I've seen a lot of instruments in my time, including a bassoon, and also an oboe, but never a saxophone.? Amanda

Thanks for checking in. I'm involved in a new project -- a newly-formng jam band in which I'm playing flute and saxophone. The flute's coming along (sax is my primary instrument), but I still do much better improvising in a Jazz or other context than I do at playing repertoire. I'm still trying to work out certain things and plan to sechedule a lesson with a local teacher who's helped me in the past (Christina Desmond, who's a great flutist and teacher! If you're on Flutenet, Christina, I hope you read this).

Last weekend at work, the sound was so overwhelming, I felt like my head was going to explode. Not literally of course, but figuratively. I'm still working with the instrument, and doing well. A friend of mine and I are going to get together on Monday and make a little music. She is a violinist and a pianist. She is inquisitive about how the flute works, so I tried my best to explain how it works to the best of my ability. How is everyone else?
