If you play a flute, you're a flutist.? Nobody is saying you're a professional, or even a very good flute player.? It's not a judgment call, it's just a fact.? That's a flute, you play it, therefore you're a flutist.? If you live in Britain (I know you don't, but if you did), you'd be a flautist.
