Urgent Questions!

Jerry Kreyling

Hello,

I would like to ask for your help with a crucial decision I'm about to
make. Next Tuesday 4/8/03 I'm scheduled for a biopsy of the lymph nodes
in my chest. It all started with an initial chest x-ray that showed a
nodule in my right lung that measured about .5 inches in diameter.
Subsequent to the chest x-ray I had a PET scan and a CT scan that
diagnostically confirmed the presents of the malignant lung tumor and
also showed additional cancer activity in my chest lymph nodes.

To make things even more challenging, three years ago I had open heart
surgery to replace an aortic valve that was deformed from birth with a
St. Jude mechanical valve. As a result I take Coumadin to prevent this
valve from being rejected by my body. The rejection involves the
formation of blood clots around the valve which could cause severe
stroke and other very dangerous complications.

The Coumadin also thins my blood and causes excessive bleeding when I
get cut or have any surgery. In order for me to be operated on I have
to stop taking the Coumadin for 4-5 days prior to the surgery. I'm
scheduled to be admitted to the hospital the day before the surgery and
receive heparin IV treatments. After the surgery I will immediately go
back on the heparin IV and start taking the Coumadin again.

This complication adds additional risk of post operative internal
bleeding and creates more worry and stress for me. I have also been
told that if they confirm the presents of cancer in my lymph nodes they
will immediately recommend either chemo or radiation treatments. If the
treatments are successful, I will go back in the hospital for the
removal of the upper and middle lobes of the right lung.

I'm very seriously considering canceling ALL Western medicine treatments
and surgery. If I do this I'm evaluating four separate treatments as an
alternative. These treatments include Dr. Budwig's diet, acupuncture,
oxygen treadmill therapy and "Directed Mental Imagery Healing" (DMIH) a
specialty form of hypnosis. In reviewing the Budwig diet many questions
come into play. I would greatly appreciate your experience with the
diet. Please review the questions below.

1. How strict is the Budwig diet?
2. Can I eat things like fish or organically raised meat?
3. How much of the mixture should I take in the beginning?
4. Will I need to stay on this diet for the rest of my life?
5. Are the portions of food restricted?
6. Would any of the other treatments interfere with the Budwig diet?

Thank you in advance for all your help!

Jerry

Hi Jerry,
I regret that I can a few of your questions, and only w/regard to guidelines
I've read about for cancer patients in general. I don't know enough to say
anything about your specific issues.

From: Jerry Kreyling <on-the-road@...>
2. Can I eat things like fish or organically raised meat?
Yes, as long as the fish isn't farm-raised (or high-mercury), and avoid fatty
meat (other than fatty fish), except perhaps if it's 100% grass-fed. Alaskan
salmon's best. Keep total meat intake to moderate level, unless you have
lymphoma (leukemia, myeloma, or melanoma), in which case I'd eat a lot of fatty
organic meat (Kelley-Gonzalez).

4. Will I need to stay on this diet for the rest of my life?
There's no rule, but longer you remain on a strict anticancer diet, the better.

6. Would any of the other treatments interfere with the Budwig diet?
MOST treatments for CANCER don't, from what very little I've read about it.

HI Jerry,
I can understand how you are feeling. I was there a few months ago.
Just the fact that you have done enough research to find the Budwig
diet speaks for how far you have come. I would support you in a
decision to avoid western allopathic medical treatments and try CAM.
(But I am not your family- just a person on an email list.)

Leanard gave you some good answers for your first two questions. I
agree with him. The Budwig diet is not hard. You can buy two of her
books from Amazon. Barlean's has a lower price on the cookbook- I
highly recommend it. Barlean's will also sell you the FSO for
wholesale. Call the 800 number and tell them you have cancer. The
most difficult part is giving up eating out. Until you can find
those few and far between places that cook to a high enough standard
for a cancer patient.

Have you seen Bill Henderson's e-book? It is full of info and great
links on CAM: see his web site for info:

Also, have you looked at IPT? iptq.org

IMHO, why do your doctors want to do a biopsy on person that this
creates difficulty for, when their very expensive PET machine has
already confirmed the diagnosis???

In addition to your list, I would add a parasite cleanse ( See Dr.
Hulda Clark's book, "The Cure for ALL CANCER" and be sure to remove
all toxins from your house, office, etc. What about your dental
work? Is your mouth full of Mercury amalgams?

Blessings,
Virginia

Jerry -
I see that you have received several responses already. I will add my
bit to it by dealing directly with your questions.

1. How strict is the Budwig diet? <
It is a matter of how you look at it. Someone who wants to stick to the
old food habits will consider it strict. Someone who is already used to
a sensible diet will not consider it strict. While it has it's special
points, it is really a common sense nutritional program. The main
features are fo/cc and ground flaxseeds. But there is much more to it.
You can see a good examples of it when you read "Letter from Dr.Budwig's
Patient" and other sections at this site:

You don't have to follow it word for word but the principles of it
should be understood and followed for best results.

2. Can I eat things like fish or organically raised meat? <
I have not seen fish in Dr.Budwig's regimen. Regarding meats, she
recommends not to eat it. If you feel you must eat it choose organic
meat from grass fed animals.

3. How much of the mixture should I take in the beginning? <
The initialization for the first 3 days is individually prescribed by
Dr.Budwig. Since she is not here to give advice you have to use your own
judgment as most of us had to do. I don't really know how important the
correct initialization is. The general rules of the protocol can be seen
in the web site I gave above.

4. Will I need to stay on this diet for the rest of my life? <
One should stay on the diet for a long time. Many people choose to stay
on it for life.

5. Are the portions of food restricted? <
Not as far as I know. I would use my weight (gain/loss) as a guide.

6. Would any of the other treatments interfere with the Budwig diet? <
According to Dr.Budwig, chemo therapy and radiation interfere with her
diet. They oppose what she is trying to do. Yet on a number of occasions
Cliff has written of people on chemo who seem to have done better after
they started taking fo/cc.

From that we can conclude that if one decides to go for the Budwig diet,
it is not a good idea to add chemo or radiation to the protocol.
However, if one is on chemo already and decides to improve one's
chances, the addition of fo/cc, ground flax seeds, etc. can be
beneficial.

I don't know about the Coumadin. Since flaxseed oil acts as a blood
thinner perhaps you would require less Coumadin, especially if you have
excessive bleeding as you say. You may also want to add foods to your
diet that are high in vitamin 'k' because of vitamin k's critical role
in blood clotting. I suggest you check these points with your doctor.
Foods very high in vitamin k are swiss chard and kale - followed by
parsley, brussels sprouts and spinach. If you do a Google search you
will find much information on this such as at this site:

I wish you good health and all the best,

Wilhelm
