Hi Glycemic Foods

Paul Cates

Does it help to limit Hi Glycemic foods also. I know not sugar but
how about watermelon, potatoes, etc with a High Glycemic index? If
so how high is high? Are grapes (44 GI) too high?

Any one know where to get avocado extract?

Paul

Hi

When considering high glycemic foods. Just lokking at the glycemic
index is not really sufficient - one must also take into account the
glycemic load.

Looking at the enclosed URL will explain this better.

Excellent point. I think glycemic index is relevant mainly if eating 1
or 2 foods on an empty stomach. However, if eating a large amount of a
low-glycemic food (e.g., grapes), or a combination of foods, at a
given meal, I would look (only) at the glycemic load. It's important
that a given meal (particularly if it contains mostly carbs) not have
an excessive glycemic load.

Then is a "meal" of fo/cc/fs, organic berries, some walnuts, and
occasionally a banana considered to have a high glycemic load?

Thanks,
Terry

No. FSO/CC/FS and walnuts has very few carbs, thus very low-glycemic
load. Berries have a very low glycemic index, and I believe a low
glycemic load, and they're cancer-healing. Except blueberries, which
have a moderate glycemic-index, but they're also cancer-healing. I
just wouldn't eat a 1000 at a single meal. Bananas have a high
glycemic load, but 1 banana at a meal is fine. Again, I believe the
answer to your question is clearly No.
