Thanks

< SNIP> what if it's left in a hot delivery van or post office for
three or four days, does any one know how long it can stay fresh under those
conditions?

I'm sure you will find your order of flax oil purchased through the mail/internet to be just fine and, if not, I'm sure the company you purchased from will replace any order not specific to your requirements.

*From my research* for flax oil to become rancid it has to:

1. Reach a temp of over 400degrees

2. Have been opened and left to sit at room temperature

3. Have been opened and refrigerated and reached the expiration date

4 Reached the expiration date having been refrigerated or not, opened or not

5. Been frozen for longer than 1 yr (this is disputable, however, I would not extend the 1yr for freezing)

The only exception with the expiration date is if the bottle has been frozen. Freezing will extend the expiration date. When freezing it is best to use as soon as possible once thawed.

As, Wilhelm states here, always test your flax oil when opening it. This is just plain old good advice.

I placed my order on June 23 with BioSan. It was on backorder from Barleans (which is in Seattle) as BioSan does not hold it in stock for the freshness factor. My bottle of flax oil (32oz) was shipped from BioSan on July 1 ...I received it 6 days later ( had a weekend in there too!). (BioSan I believe is in Arizona, I'm in Michigan ) It was fresher tasting than any Barleans I had bought locally. I opened a bottle the day I got it, froze the other. The first bottle I opened was just finished yesterday. Good to the last drop ! ;)

Just spoke with two local health stores....their Barleans comes in a UPS or FED-EX truck- not refrigerated!
If you ordered from the net you would be getting yours the same way. Think about it. And this...some of the oil I had gotten from a health store has been on the refrigerator shelf longer than what I had in the above mentioned shipment.

This has been my experience from purchasing on the net or locally. To each their own.
