style and translation

It's hard to beat Don Quixote's comment that translation is like
looking at a tapetry from the back side. That is particularly true of
poetry.

In regard to sentence length in recent English style, it is true that
since Hemingway sentences are shorter; also since TV thoughts
are more often impulses as short as a heartbeat.

When it comes to an enduring concept that is essentially a
process that keeps us alive, and living better, I appreciate an
expression as short as a clear recipe, and if that takes away my
cancer I will express my joy in sentences as long as any Milton
wrote.

Love and health to all,
