A review of two recent Fallish books, one which is new to me: "In the wake of Mark E. Smith¡¯s passing, two recent releases¡ªExcavate!: The Wonderful and Frightening World of The Fall and Slang King: M.E.S on Stage 1977¨C2013¡ªchronicle the legacy of The Fall." https://bombmagazine.org/articles/he-is-not-appreciated-two-books-about-the-fall JC

Prolly olde/yesterday's newsvetc (MES review of Morrissey 1988)
16
¡°A series of wives rather than a one night stand rock star lifestyle¡± would appear to be wide of the mark, given Brix and others¡¯ biographies! Anyway, I¡¯ve attached the review from ¡°Gay Life¡±, May 1988, as Fallnetters appear not to have seen it. Dan Sent from Mail for Windows

I can hardly believe I saw them AND I can hardly believe I didn't go and see them
23
Here¡¯s two good ones for a Friday afternoon. Which 3 bands did you see when you were young or before they were famous that you can hardly believe you saw. I suppose you could include the fall. Here¡¯s my ¡°starter for ten¡±: * Destroy All Monsters in 1980 * Soft Cell in 1980 * Captain Beefheart in 1982 Which 3 bands can you believe you didn¡¯t go and see when they played in your area. The Fall can of course be included. * Kraftwerk 1981 (I forgot!) * Ramones 1980 * Slits 1980 Go on then punks, make my day. Adam

Is anyone in the group familiar with this mural of MES by the artist Akse (photo byJeff Higgott)? I presume it is somewhere in the friendly confines of Prestwich... Wonderful and frightening, yes? Perry

The Fall Are You Are Missing Winner Cherry Red CD ¨C 4 disc digipack After the glory of The Unutterable, Mark E Smith and his fractured but not broken Fall returned with a brand new band after his trademark clearout to produce an album that has always divided opinion. Wayne AF Carey goes back into the vaults¡ https://louderthanwar.com/the-fall-are-you-are-missing-winner-album-reissue-review/ JC

Prestwich Arts Festival returns for 2021

"Fans of The Fall can join a walking tour of Mark E Smith's Prestwich, learning from superfan Rob Carroll about how Mark often wrote about the people and places right on his doorstep." Unfortunately, "Kicking off the festival is a screening and Q&A of new feature film ¡®The Pebble and the Boy¡¯ from filmmaker Chris Green, celebrating mod culture with the music of Paul Weller." https://www.burytimes.co.uk/news/19566202.prestwich-arts-festival-returns-2021/ JC

Standells Mystery Tune

Found this track on a very bootleggy looking compilation on Spotify, and it's a lovely one but I cannae believe it's your actual Standells: https://youtu.be/onSTw96015Q Is it? Anyone recognise it? I suppose it could be some b-side with a guest vocalist or something. Here's the comp: https://open.spotify.com/album/3V9zNFxj6BLV04Tf5vmOKG?si=qakWRvuBTpi4OKr3VPDazw&utm_source=copy-link&dl_branch=1 Pete

"Dip Priest"
12
I just met a Fall fan friend-of-a-friend who proudly showed me his forearm tattoo that he claimed said "Hip Priest" in a sort of ornate blackletter style. I did not have the heart to tell him that it looked to me like it said what I wrote up in the subject line here.. Careful with your tattoo lettering choices, frenz.. JC

Tom Robinson has been sitting in for Gid Coe on radio 6 recently and his show has been a real eye-opener. He has drawn my attention to the fact that there is so much utterly shyte music around these days! I was totally unaware and feel a bit of a fool for telling people that music is going through a golden patch. I¡¯d like to take this opportunity to thank Tom for selflessly performing such a valuable public service. I¡¯m going to retreat back into my cocoon of good tunes now and never venture out again. adam
