Just a head’s up that the Cabs are doing a gig at ICA in November with original member Chris Watson doing early material (75-90). Tix on sale on Friday. There’s a couple other gigs dotted around the country.

?

I cannot wait. Well assuming all you FFs don’t get ahead of me in the queue and snap up all the tickets.

?

Tickets on sale at 10.05am Friday. Definitely not 10.00am as you may see being publicised. Oh no.

Oh man, not Doc Chop! Incredibly sad news. I had the honor of being his houseguest briefly on my one transatlantic journey to the British isles 20+ years ago. Is Jenny still here? Thanks, Stefan, for reporting this.?

Rest in peace, good doctor.?

This is my favorite pic of Chris Hopkins.

We were in a pub in Cambridge, looking at a map of France in
preparation for a cycling trip. The next pic is Chris somewhere south
of St. Etienne, after applying all the sunscreen he felt was
necessary.

Better times.

Trainspotters will point out that 13th Chime are originally from Haverhill in Suffolk, not Cambridge. Chris joined them late last year. Your Dinner was one of the two or three best local groups in the early 80s. RIP Chris.

Following the successful ‘Slates’ Live! and ‘Grotesque’ Live! releases, Popstock Records is proud to present Singles Live Vol One 1978–81 released 9th May 2025. The album documents a particularly important era in The Fall’s history - it begins with the group that recorded the debut album Live At The Witch Trials and ends with the line-up that made Hex Enduction Hour. In between we get a number of interesting variations on these two seminal iterations. As listeners will hear, what is beyond doubt is that whoever took to the stage on any given night The Fall were always witheringly powerful. The versions of the songs presented here are a wonderful addition the group’s canon.

Frustrated by a lack of recognition, consultation and compensation by some of the labels putting out reissues, live LPs and compilations from the 40-year history of the well-loved post punk group, Paul Hanley, Steve Hanley, Marc Riley and Craig Scanlon devised a plan to shift some of the balance back in favour of former members of the band. They settled on something of a unique solution: to recreate releases they had appeared on but from live recordings taken at a variety of shows. They formed the label Popstock as the vehicle for these releases.

As I'm sure many of you know, David Thomas, the founding member of such essential Cleveland proto-punk/proto-post-punk bands Rocket From The Tombs and Pere Ubu, as well as many solo & collaborative projects over the years, passed away last week in his adopted home in England. The influence and importance of Thomas's work on the underground music scene in Northeast Ohio, as well as around the world, was simply immeasurable. I scarcely have the words to convey how meaningful so much of his music has been in my life and to my own music. So, next best thing, I dedicated this week's entire show to 2 hours of his work. Rest in peace, David -- we will sorely miss you.?
