Re: Happy Birthday To You

I get irritated by these song title generators, because it's only a tiny minority of Fall song titles that even approach that format. None on Grotesque do, for example. The weirdest title on that is WMC Blob 59, which is constructed very differently.?

I may be taking it too seriously.?

I just replayed the tweets:

?

Fall song title generator: What you last ate + favourite kitchen utensil + what you wanted to be when you grew up (¡®s) + the last insult you were called + yr fave sweets as a kid

?

For me it¡¯s Loaf Spatula Postman Twatface Humbug I¡¯m not sure this is the ultimate generator to be honest. Too many components.

Grotesque is my favorite album by the Fall (don¡¯t hold me to that beyond the currently?bubbling?post-listen exhilaration, but it is). I nearly never wasn¡¯t playing this when I first got into the group; indeed there was only?a brief?time I didn¡¯t play it for a bit because?I?lost my CD copy when it,?along?with the CD player it happened to be?inside, was?stolen out of my car,?and I just hope whichever petty thief (lout) ended up with it appreciated the true value and didn¡¯t flog it on to a used record shop but became instantly a fall fan and hat very day and threw in his miscreant behavior for a life¡¯s work in human rights law or something.??

?

Grotesque got the Tim Burgess Twitter Listening Party treatment recently with key contributions from Steve Hanley, Paul Hanley, and Grant Showbiz and plenty of fascinating memories of the recording sessions. For example, re: New Face in?Hell:

The instructions for this song were that Mark wanted it to sound like a quintessential working-class? summer. He played a cassette he'd recorded out of his kitchen window of an ice-cream van and birds twittering in the background.

If you¡¯ve not heard of TimsTwitterListeningParty before, it¡¯s sort of a real-time Twitter-based?conversation about a record that everybody cues up and plays along together?(think?DVD-extra commentary track).?

?

?

If you¡¯ve?not heard of a DVD it¡¯s like a miniature laserdisc.?

?

If you¡¯ve not heard of a laserdisc it¡¯s like a sparkly hubcap for a flying car from the future.?

40 years old today (in the UK at least).

?

¡®New Face In Hell¡¯ for me I think.

?

I've been so busy lately that I haven't been able to participate in the rejuvenation of FallNet as much as I'd like, but I will definitely chime in on this one. I think it was Grotesque, when it came out, that, once I got over the persistent initial-listening shock of hating it first, fully pushed the Fall into my "favorite band" status..?

?

New Face In Hell is definitely a prize. But I'd really be hard pressed to designate one track from it as "my favorite" or "the best." The whole thing is an amazing presence in the history of recorded Western "popular" musics.?

?

40 years old, holy crap. Glad I'm still around to enjoy it!?

?

thanks for the notice, Adam!
