It has been suggested to me (by someone herein) that I am mostly alone in liking to listen to the Receiver 3-pack (Sinister Waltz, Fiend with a Violin, and Oswald Defense Lawyer).
I am also more than mostly alone in liking Backdrop and Cheetham Hill. And also the pretty ugly that is Oxymoron.
I've always felt the Chaos Tape was a bit underwhelming other than that fantastic version of New Face in Hell. I do love the presentation of one of the reissues with the b&w photos and a mildly endearing letter from MES.
Sinister Waltz is, of course, a stone cold classic.

The Chaos tape and Sinister Waltz were hardly the best places to start.

From Amazon. Made me chuckle.

Legendary?

I'm sorry, I've really tried. I thought I would be able to like The Fall, but I just can't. I thought
that the first album of theirs that I bought ("Sinister Waltz") was just a bad one. I saw them at Leeds Festival last year, and was just unimpressed. I bought this... and I'm not giving them anymore chances - this is supposed to be good. I've listened to it
a few times, and I just can't understand why The Fall are supposed to be so good.
The first song on this record consists of just 2 chords, and is over 7 minutes long. All the other songs on the record consist of 2 chords, and SEEM to be over 7 minutes long. No doubt some are. They are just so monotonous and
lacking in invention. And the performance is not particularly tight.
Probably, all those things I've just listed are the things that Fall fans think are good about The Fall. If that's the case, then it's not for me. And I'm glad. You can have them.

He's right though ¡°all those things I've just listed are the things that Fall fans think are good about The Fall¡±. Apart from
the bit about ¡°lacking in invention¡±.
