Re: Programming software communication issue
¿ªÔÆÌåÓý
Brian,
I concur with Doug's (VK2XLJ) statement with recent experience with the same issue.
Before Christmas, the workstation I used for programming was working fine. This workstation is Windows 10, but is generally only used for radio Ham related work / logging / etc, so nothing new had been installed (other than a major Windows update coming through)
In February, I ran into USB driver hell with both the Chirp Software and the DMR software, both not working correctly with the comm port. I was fortunate here with both apps not working, and using different methods/drivers of using the USB ports, it gave me
a clue that a Windows update had clobbered the driver. I believe it was the last major Windows 10 update (not one of the smaller patch Tuesday updates)
Main thing was to locate the remove the broken driver, various reboots and re-installing the original working driver(s) - once I did this software was working again, but it was several hours that I won't get back.
Now it is very possible these drivers may be poorly written, or they are not being kept up to date with Microsoft's security or framework requirements (remember many of these drivers hail from 2018 or earlier), so it may not just be Microsoft's fault, but this
sort of issue is pushing more and more people to setup Linux PC's for this sort of work.
Regards
Bob

Prog your radios on another PC that doesn't have Win10/11. As Win 10/11 will automatically update drivers, the previous editions don't.

Hi all. I purchased a baofeng a couple of years ago as a backup to my Anytone. I wanted to add some frequencies to it this week, which I haven¡¯t done in a couple of years, and it won¡¯t communicate with my windows PC. It used to
work fine with the programming software. The only thing that has changed is my computer has had Window updates over the years and now running Windows 10.
I saw some info about old divers or cables not working on newer Window versions? Any thought on fix?

Re: Removal of offline symbol DM-1701
Thanks for the response Don, I cant find anything in the manual or online about it, all it says is that it indicates the channel is offline, the cps does not give any clues either, it does change but only when you put a negative or positive offset in the channel info, the blue arrow, the minus and the plus symbol, i'll have a look and see if its something staring me in the face, It's strange as it's only this one frequency, I double and treble checked the slot and colour code and I also get the same info on receiving that frequency on my whistler TRX2, as i say its a weird one because if i program the channel as simplex the blue arrow appears and if i TX the scanner receives it and i can hear, but i can hear a response on my scanner and the 1701 green led lights up but no sound from the 1701. these things are sent to try us,,lol

Re: Removal of offline symbol DM-1701
Colin,
Sorry no one has replied to this. Probably there is no one here who has that radio or, if they have it, they don't know how to do what you're asking to do. On my Anytone, I don't know how the DMR works. I am using a code plug made by my brother, who understands these things, but I would have no way of knowing how to change anything except on FM only channels. It's a shame that DMR and D-Star weren't made to be much simpler to set up. Once set up, it's not all that difficult to operate. Well, D-Star is a bit more complicated than DMR, I think, to operate once it's set up. Baofeng UV-18 Pro Max GPS Air Band Horrible RX
I have UV-18 Pro Max GPS I am convinced it is genuine, color screen, large numbers, deep voice in the menu with the ability to create zones in memory is the correct radio. But I am disappointed because the AM (Wide) Air Band mode sounds Horrible, hoarse, saturated, strong signals are heard saturated, almost nothing is understood. I really like the style of this radio. I have the UV-17 Pro GPS, reception is completely understandable, crystal sound is received very nice in AM mode. I imagined that having so much similarity in terms of firmware (when both radios are turned on, the screen looks like two drops of water) that it would have the same reception but that is not the case. Any comments are welcome.

Re: Baofeng UV18 Pro Max Wont Power Off
Hi Phil,? Just googled your radio and found a utube comparison between UV18PROMAX, UV17 GPS and 1 other. The interesting bit was just before 10.00 minutes he was talking about in the settings - screen there is a setting , " always on ". ?I'll try and find the link to it for you. Not sure if it only applys to the screen.? Bob On Tue, 16 Jan 2024, 23:58 Phil Nicholson, <philnic100@...> wrote:

Radioddity GC-5
BTW: Happy New Year To All On The Group.
Unlike the Baofeng UF-17 which has a a Unofficial "CPS Unofficial Build 124j" which make it a good workable radio the(Sister like) Radioddity GC-5 has Many shortcomings (like Its LOCKED) It Looks Like it will become another Radioddity Orphan Radio unlike the Radiodiity GD-77 which has a fantastic support and Freeware firmware that make it a Fun DMR/Analog radio. Unlike the UF-17,I have Searched and Found No "Build" that would firstly Open Up the GC-5 and? clean up the "foibles" Any one on the group have any Information on this Radio and any "Unofficial" Builds? GM-15 PRO
Hey everyone!
I've got a booger that I haven't been able to figure out on my own.? I'm working with a friends GM-15 pro and immediately found out that it is not supported for programming by either Baofeng or CHIRP.? I did download the software recommended from Radiocity for their GM-30 model. It seems to be working fairly well, but the info I'm using (which worked in my UV-9R Pro doesn't seem to be translating across for some reason.? I can listen to all four channels but cant transmit on any of them. Side issue on my 9r I can't transmit on channel 3 because there's no alternate to D450N if anyone has a workaround for that. I will attach pics of the channels and the way it is set up.? The original frequency information was pulled from a Kenwood TK-3200. There are really only two frequencies separated by different DTCS codes.? I can't see what I've missed but I'm hoping yall can! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
Re: Baofeng DM-1701 display colour
I don't see what Donald, the software from the radioddity site is the baofeng firmware, I'm? not sure why it's on the radioddity site though, even going to baofengs site gives you the exact same firmware, I did think maybe it could be remnants of the GD77 firmware remaining in the radio that wasn't cleared or over written, but thats just an assumption, maybe if i reflashed the radio back to GD77, changed the colour and then flashed it back to the original baofeng firmware may do something, It's just a thought, I may give it a try if I cannot find a solution, as I said, the radios work fine, it's just the colour. lol
