How to reset a Baofeng UV-5R two way radio (WAS: UV-5R Watch function)

Apparently, there are various things you can reset on the UV-5R. Try these instructions: ================================================================= How to reset a Baofeng UV-5R two way radio Certain circumstances may require you to perform a reset on your Baofeng. Performing a reset is extremely easy, however if you speak only English and the voice prompts are in Chinese, performing a simple reset or recovering from one may require a little more attention. Follow the steps below to reset a Baofeng UV-5R, BF-F9, BF-F8+, UV-B6 or UV-82 two way radio from Buy Two Way Radios. To perform a VFO Reset 1.Turn on the radio and press the MENU button. 2.Press the UP and DOWN arrow key to select RESET (Menu Item 40). 3.Press MENU to choose RESET. 4.Press the DOWN arrow key to choose VFO. 5.Press MENU. The radio will display SOURCE? 6.Press MENU to confirm. The radio will display WAIT... for a few seconds, then beep twice to confirm reset is complete. The radio will revert to Chinese language mode. Reset is complete. To perform a FULL Reset 1.Turn on the radio and press the MENU button. 2.Press the UP and DOWN arrow key to select RESET (Menu Item 40). 3.Press MENU to choose RESET. 4.Press the DOWN arrow key to choose ALL. 5.Press MENU. The radio will display SOURCE? 6.Press MENU to confirm. The radio will display WAIT... for a few seconds, then beep twice to confirm reset is complete. 7.The radio will revert to Chinese language mode. Reset is complete. To set language from Chinese to English 1.Press MENU. 2.Press the UP and DOWN arrow key to select VOICE (Menu Item 14). 3.Press MENU to choose VOICE. 4.Press the DOWN arrow key to choose ENG. 5.Press MENU to choose ENG. NOTE: a VFO RESET only resets the frequency values in VFO mode. To reset the radio back to factory defaults, choose RESET/ALL. A reset may resolve some issues, but will not resolve them all. Some scenarios, such as inoperability due to an incorrect or corrupt image file cannot be resolved with a reset and require another resolution. It is, however, usually a standard first step when troubleshooting the radio. ================================================================= Please go to the link for the original discussion about resetting this radio. I suggest copying the text above and pasting it into a word processor, then saving it in a convenient format, like PDF, so that you can share this in the future. Re: UV-5R Dual Watch function
Check menu 34: TDR--AB should be OFF . I've never operated with that on before , but it sounds like it might be the nature of your beast On Fri, Oct 6, 2023, 11:33 Tony Ross via <ynotssor=[email protected]> wrote:

Re: UV-5R Dual Watch function
I tried something similar, but I saved the "Dual Watch" configuration as an img file, then reloaded that. I got the same results. I couldn't find a choice in Chirp that reset the radio to default. I guess I'm asking how to get to the default and is it necessary to save the file as a csv file before reloading it back on the radio? Thanks for your help! Re: UV-5R Dual Watch function
Interesting, as I've never encountered that with several UV-5R before. The only thing that I can suggest would be, using chirp, to save a CSV file of what you have programmed in already, resetting the radio to defaults, and then reload the CSV file. UV-5R Dual Watch function
Hi, I'm new to the group. I searched the messages for this topic but didn't find anything.?
I am trying to get Dual Watch to work on my UV-5R. When I go to the Menu, it says the TDR is ON. But when I try it the dual watch function is not working. I only hear the channel with the arrow. I have to push the A/B button to hear the other channel. I have tried programming it manually through the Menu and also using Chirp, but get the same result. Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks! |
Re: New (to me) UV-5RX3 programming
Bill, I was amused by your comments regarding both Steve Jobs and SIR Clive Sinclair, simply because Steve Jobs made me very wealthy having bought stock at $18 a share and then having it go to $650 and do a 7 to 1 split, so was $92 a share and subsequently going to $175 a share. I also worked for Sir Clive Sinclair, way before he was knighted, in fact I remember that for a visionary it took him several attempts to pass his drivers license it was that far back :-).

Re: New (to me) UV-5RX3 programming
Not dumb, cheap. If you can engineer multiple things to flow through one pathway instead of 2, you save pennies.? Volume fidelity, tubes, transistors, generators or cars, even animals, are generally at their best at mid output. It's not ideal, but it's life.
But some volume-inclusive circuits will demand all or most of the output available to boost co-functions to tip 1's & 0 threshold levels. No doubt there are those who ascribe to Steven Jobs and those who follow Clive Sinclair. There's a song; "It's a mixed up ___ world." But you're still right - It's funny... Even if you understand it. New (to me) UV-5RX3 programming
First post here, hello.
I was gifted a UV-5RX3 and I am unable to get CHIRP (next) to read it. I have selected the Radioddity UV-5RX3 model and the correct com ports - which is either a real Serial port on COM1? or a pair of other USB Serial cables (COM5 and 6) I am able to use successfully for other radios (Kenwood TH-G71A and TYT UV-H88), I've even tried the Prolific Cable that came in the box and Windows 10 installed a driver for it, but it keys the transmitter, so it was uninstalled. With the any of the serial ports I am getting a "Radio did not respond" error. The Firmware on the display says BFS001 and I am aware that this may be meaningless. SN: EU2016051503 Is it possible to test the serial communication with a terminal emulator? What serial parameters and possible commands might retrieve a response? If the serial port is plain dead then I'll have to program what I want added by hand (uggg). Thank you Danny, K5CG |
Re: CHIRP Help / Baofeng VU16 Pro
Eddie,
Squelch on my Baofengs are all set for 2.
Otherwise, you may be between a rock and a hard place.? I've had nothing but trouble with Chirp.? I'd say keep looking on RT Systems almost daily with one caveat. Your model has the word pro in it.? If it is marketed as a ham radio, you are golden. RT Systems is likely working on a program for it.
If it is marketed as a land mobile radio, RT Systems won't touch it.? They won't do any commercial radio.

CHIRP Help / Baofeng VU16 Pro
I have a quick question for the group. I have purchased a Baofeng VU16 Pro (Dual Band model). Somehow I have overwritten the base file I had saved when I got the radio before I started programming it with CHIRP. I have also reset the squelch settings and have set them too high. I have searched the web and have yet to find a copy of the base file.? I have checked out RT Systems, but they shouldn't be the only software to program he radio. I see so many others reference CHIRP for the Baofengs, I agree, I don't get all the features uploaded (I use Baofeng BF-F8HP) to program as my radio isn't listed (yet).
?
I hope I'm not breaking any rules but I'm also posting this to the Chirp group in hopes of getting assistance also.
?
What I'm looking for is the following:
1.? Base file for the Baofeng VU16 Pro Dual Band radio
2.? The original numbers for the squelch settings for the VU16 Pro??
?
Thank you in advance
?

Re: Tone squelch does not work on my BF-F8HP
Thanks, Bob.
A1) Yes, I can hear the repeater with tone turned off. A2) Yes, there is a nearby uncoordinated repeater on the same frequency that often breaks squelch but is weak signal and unintelligible.? It's the reason this repeater transmits a tone. A3) This repeater is only about six miles away.? I can hit it with full quieting from my HT.? Receiving is also full quieting. |
Re: Tone squelch does not work on my BF-F8HP
You have said that you can't hear a repeater that transmits a ctcss tone when you have the ctcss receive turned on. Q 1) can you hear the same repeater without the ctcss receive turned on? Q2) if? "yes" - is ctcss receive? really necessary if your hearing ok ? ?Q3) if "no" does that repeater currently get to your location,? ?if you use another radio, antenna or even move around to get a signal from same repeater? Re: Tone squelch does not work on my BF-F8HP
I have one that works just fine.? I use the RT Systems programmer for it, as I do on nearly all of my radios.

And if I try to set it to TSQL in Chirp (CTCSS xmit and rcv), the setting will get copied to the radio, but I can never hear anyone who transmits a CTCSS tone.? Also cannot hear repeaters that transmit a tone. |
