More information about our camp: Please join our Award-Winning Summer Art Camp for a summer filled with Fun and Creativity! Voted Best of the Bay by Parent's Press, our location is on Solano Avenue, Berkeley, in the Thousand Oaks neighborhood. We are excited to serve our community here! We limit each summer camp session to 12-15 students so that each student receives individual attention. Making art develops problem-solving skills, encourages creativity, and develops self-confidence. Our goal is to provide the materials, structure, and guidance to spark creativity in each child, allow them to explore and investigate their own ideas, and have lots of fun in the process. Our philosophy is to encourage students to explore and express themselves, emphasizing practice over product, without judgment, comparison, or criticism. Each camp day has plenty of structure and practice, and we have lots of fun in the process. I love to work with each student, one-on-one, to see what their unique interests are! We demonstrate a variety of methods and ways of making art to nurture artistic development. We also provide lessons on color theory, and famous artists in art history, and host special guests to spark the creative process. We wholeheartedly encourage individual exploration of personal themes and interests. And we value working together and sharing ideas. Collaboration, cooperation, and community are important! Local theater needs your help...Please Act Now
? We need your voice on this Another blow to Performing Arts funding unless you add your voice now! Dear Central Works friends and supporters, I'll try to keep this brief. I'm sure you are all aware of the many cuts and cancellations of arts grants that have occurred over recent weeks by the Trump Administration. The last thing we imagined was a further body blow from Governor Gavin Newsom in his "May Revision" to the annual state budget. Early this year, a new state grant program was announced: The Performing Arts Equitable Payroll Fund Program, established by state legislation, with the specific aim of supporting small nonprofit performing arts organizations. The grant promised to refund awardees up to 90% of their payroll expenses from July 2024 through June 2025. The program was years in planning. Applications required enormous effort and documentary support, in addition to the stress of an extremely competitive pool of organizations for the relatively small fund of $11.5 million. Applications were submitted on March 10, and have been under review for the past 2 months. Then, last week, the Governor presented a proposed budget revision which completely withdraws the $11.5 million set aside for this program. In other words, he wants to kill it. The new budget proposal is scheduled for a vote in the state legislature in June. The performing arts community needs your help, so we're imploring you to make your voices heard, and soon! Here are some actions you can take*: PLEASE HELP SAVE THE PERFORMING ARTS EQUITABLE PAYROLL FUND PROGRAM! Call your legislator*s office.
