It can be a bit confusing at first, but you'll soon pick them up. A few common ones used here and elsewhere: TIR, which has already been explained HS or H/S for headstock and TS or T/S for tailstock.

Sorry Andy, TIR = Total Indicator Runout. It¡¯s how much wobble you get on the dial indicator. The less wobble, the more your system approaches a perfect circle running concentric about the axis.
