Re: Taper size
I do not disagree with most of what you have said, but if you own a lathe then you tend to need to double up on some tooling. Expensive for the Hobbyist. Richard

Self Releasing Drawbar
Attached is a sketch of a self release drawbar that I use on my X2 mill. The Top Hat item replaced the spindle lock nut. The Nut shown was loctited to the 3/8 UNC drawbar. I intended installing ball

I have no argument with the fact that it may be a good idea. Your statement "In a drilling machine the MT arbor is in there so tight as it never gets removed so it should not fall out." is not quite

Re: (Taper size ) Drawbar in a mill
Well that depends on the type of collet you are using, example: R8, ER16, MT2 etc... The different styles and sizes of collets have differing ranges that they can compress to. A collet of any style

Re: (Taper size ) Drawbar in a mill
?Johannes, You should never use an end mill in a drill chuck. Always use a collet or a mill tool holder.¡± Thanks Michael, Sometimes we need a slap on the fingers . I went directly to my workshop,

Re: (Taper size ) Drawbar in a mill
Michael Thanks, good to know. This leads me to ask my next question. Is it OK to insert a 12 mm end mill cutter into a 1/2 inch collet or would the collet fail due to stresses?? ThanksPrasad To:

Re: Taper size
Richard, A drawbar is definitely needed in a milling machine. Most end mills have flutes with a right hand helix which exerts force in a downward direction which can pull the end mill down and out if

Also the shanks on drills aren?t hardened, which is why they gall up if they spin in the chuck. Which would you rather ruin when something goes wrong, the drill or chuck? Tony Sent: Wednesday, 19
