What thread pitch are you trying to cut? The threading dial only aligns for multiples of 1/2 tpi; if you're doing a metric approximation (with an SAE leadscrew) you'll have to keep the half-nuts

If nothing is slipping, it may mean you have the gears set up for metric threads. How many tpi were you trying to cut? How many tpi did it actually cut, as measured with a thread gauge (no estimating
