Re: Vevor parts
Grizzly is my go-to source for mini lathe parts, although I have no complaints with LMS. Grizzly sells a 7x12 and a 7x16.? Part numbers for the (presumably) common parts between them are different and the 7x16 parts tend to be more expensive.? But both LMS and Grizzly have pics online which is helpful. Can also often find parts on Aliexpress, but my experience is that can be a bit of a crap shoot, and the search sucks like most sites these days so finding anything is unreasonably difficult.

Vevor parts
The Vevor 7x14 lathe I bought has no parts list and does not always match what is on other mini lathes. The quality of the parts has not always been the best. The keyway in the shaft for the "A" timing gear is not centered and does not allow the gear to go on without a lot of force. I need to prey it off with a screwdriver which takes a lot of one side/other side reps. The plastic timing gear are VERY tight on the shafts. The timing belt has 90 teeth rather then the standard 70. If I knew all of this before I bought it I would have passed on it. Has anyone else had any problems?

Grinding Shaper Tools
(I realize this is a minilathe group, not a shaper group, but there are shaper owners on here, plus many ingenious people, so I'm forwarding this post I sent to a shaper group). One advantage of a shaper over a milling machine is that to cut, say, a
groove of a certain size, you don't need a specific milling cutter but can just grind a shaper tool of that size. But the disadvantage of this is that you HAVE to grind it and grind it right. I'm having problems in this area. To make, for example, a 1/4" groove tool, I have to grind a tool that's exactly 1/4" across in front, but with side relief and front relief, and tapering slightly back from the cutting edge on top. Tricky to do this right, and if I overshoot any of these, the tool isn't 1/4" wide on top anymore and I have to start again. Has anyone here developed any jigs or procedures to help grind shaper tools better? Mike Taglieri |
Re: What's happend to my knurling???
开云体育Pull the knurl wheels a measure them . Knurling takes a lot of pressure & sometimes? much more pressure then ya would think to make a good knurl .Pressure also varies depending on the material yer using . Like mentioned go in hard & fast . Be extra careful if yer using a brush to apply yer cutting fluid . If the bristles get caught & sucked into the knurl wheels we may be having a different conversation ' good luck animal On 3/7/24 1:39 PM, Bill Williams wrote:

Re: What's happend to my knurling???
It appears that one knurl is engaging deeper than the other. This one direction gives a doubled knurl and? the other a correct knurl. On Thu, Mar 7, 2024 at 9:17?AM davesmith1800 <davesmith1@...> wrote: I agree with OldToolmaker? |
Re: What's happend to my knurling???
For successful knurl use the following steps.
1) Use cutting oil 2) Position the knurling tool as close as possible to headstock. 3) Switch lathe on and advance the knurling tool into the cut as quickly as possible and do not dwell. You must be aggressive here. 4) Do not retract knurling tool until knurl is complete as you don’t want a double cut knurl. It will be almost impossible to pick up a partially completed knurl. I have not had a bad knurl in many years. Remember be aggressive! Dick |
