Possible Pepco Scammer 2
We just had a woman come to our door with no credentials asking to see pepco bills for some kind of verification. Imagine she¡¯s trying others. Maybe she¡¯s legitimate but more likely a scam as described below: Slamming (Switching Energy Supply Companies) ¡°Slamming¡± is the practice of switching your utility supplier and is another favorite of scammers. So, you wonder how scammers are able to switch your energy supplier? Remember Maryland is a choice state, so you can choose a different energy supplier. So for electricity, you can choose the default supplier or switch to solar, wind or other energy source. No matter the supplier of electricity, PEPCO would still send your bills. Here¡¯s where the scammers come in. Legally, a salesperson comes to your door, or calls you on the phone, to ask if you want to switch energy suppliers and pitches their product or claims to have a better rate than your current supplier. Scammers might not take no for an answer and switch your supplier anyway. They may claim to be ¡°from your utility company¡± or ¡°the government¡± and need to see your bill in order to determine if you are eligible for discounts. Your bill has your account number which is how they make the switch. Absolutely, under no circumstances show these individuals a copy of your bill. In some instances, the person at your door may try and create a sense of urgency or even threaten not to leave your property until she¡¯s seen your bill. This is your home so you can simply close your door. If at a later time, you decide to change your supplier company, do your homework and research which company will be the best fit for you. The Montgomery Energy Connection website can help you research programs and options on your energy consumption. The AARP has more information regarding this slamming scam. If you have questions about who your electricity supplier is, please contact your utility. In Montgomery County, that could be Potomac Electric Power Company (PEPCO), Baltimore Gas and Electric (BGE), or Potomac Edison Company.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch for our area. Total snow accumulations of 1 to 3 inches are most likely, with up to 5 inches possible. Hazardous road conditions likely. Here are the details. Graphics: https://www.weather.gov/lwx/winter Stay safe! -Maureen

Happy Holidays! 3
Hope everyone has had a good 2021 so far and is staying safe in light of the dramatically increasing Covid numbers in DC. Just a quick note to remind neighbors that we have the good fortune of being taken care of by a wonderful team of trash and recycling folks and Wade is the best damn postperson a neighborhood could ever ask for. If you have the opportunity to provide them an end of the year gift, I have zero doubts they'd greatly appreciate it. I'm pretty sure we all recognize this has been quite a trying time, especially for teams on the front line. Even if you or your family choose not to provide a gift, please take the opportunity to thank them in person or pass kind words on to them. Any and everything makes a difference! Safe travels to all who will be away for the next few days and look forward to seeing everyone out in the alley and on the stoops once it warms up again! Nick & Lauren 242 10th Street, SE

View it as a Web page. December 2021 As temperatures dip over the next few weeks, there are plenty of ways to stay warm while saving money and energy. If you pay a heating bill, taking steps to save energy over the winter months will free up money you can use for other needs, or for gifting something special to a loved one over the holidays. Even if you don¡¯t pay for utilities, many energy-saving measures have other benefits, such as reducing drafts and keeping the temperature steady throughout the day. You may be familiar with well-known winter energy saving tips, such as adjusting the thermostat lower than usual, sealing gaps around doors and windows, or leaving the blinds open to let the sun in. But have you tried these other simple steps? Make sure furniture or other items are not blocking duct openings or other sources of heat. If you have ceiling fans, reverse their direction to go clockwise in the winter so they push warm air down. Make sure your filters are replaced regularly on your heating system, or coordinate with your landlord to do so. Put some trays out with water to evaporate or add some plants to your space, as humidity makes the air feel warmer. If you qualify based on the income guidelines, apply to get help reducing energy bills through the Weatherization Assistance Program, which conducts audits and installs energy-saving measures. By taking these actions in your home, you¡¯ll also be helping the District meet its Sustainable DC energy goals. And doesn¡¯t contributing to shared community efforts bring a little extra warmth to your heart too? Kids' ski stuff
We have the following stuff to give away. It¡¯s all kid-sized, and in fair condition. Nothing wrong with it, but it doesn¡¯t fit anyone in our house any more! We bought it all used at the ski swap a few years ago. Two pairs boots - unisex. Probably about size 2 - 5. Your kids are welcome to try them on to see if they fit. The smaller pair is rear-entry, easier to get in and out of. One pair skis, with bindings, 120 cm. Atomic brand. Let me know if you¡¯re interested. -Dan

A Bike Thief Visits the Moghtaderis AGAIN
Apologies if you just heard me screaming profanities in the alley while I chased away this bike thief who was in our carport. We had bought them Saturday morning but hadn¡¯t been able to install them yet¡ until it suddenly became priority #1! Stay safe, friends, and lock your bikes.
