Popsicles for kids today
Hi all- I made about 15 juice pops (oj and lemonade) for the kids for today. Not sure if that is enough or not. We have a lot more popsicle molds but our freezer is crowded. If someone else has freezer space and wants to make them drop me a line or come by our house (224 10th). Cara should be there most of the day.

blocking off the north end of the alley tomorrow 2
So, for our party tomorrow I plan to block the alley entrances on 11th and 10th st with garbage cans. That way we won't have cars passing through the middle as they tend to. That still leaves access on C st to the south end of the alley and of course if a car has to get into the north end it still can. Hope that makes sense to everyone and folks can plan accordingly. Thanks, antonia

weather update 6
Well sadly not as nice as yesterday but still no reason to cancel our alley party. Here is the update from the capitol weather gang. http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/capital-weather-gang 10:00 a.m. update: We¡¯re upping rain shower chances from 30% to 50-60% as radar suggests we stand a slightly better than even chance of some generally light rain showers from late morning onward. The activity is scattered and, for most spots, most of the day should still by dry - but keep an umbrella handy. EXPRESS FORECAST Today: Clouds increase, chance of showers. Upper 60s. | Tonight:Showers end, mostly cloudy. Low-to-mid 50s. | Tomorrow: Mostly cloudy, slight shower chance late. Low 70s.

Thanks everyone! Re: Party has started
Yes, it was a great time and I am so glad that so many any folks made it braving the so-so weather. A lot of neighbors finally got a chance to properly meet each other which was really nice. And you will all be happy to hear that we had a lot of left over beer so I think that pretty much means that there are going to be a few happy hours in the near future on the next nice days. BTW, someone left a blue plastic St Agnes school cup and a small blue plastic cup, probably a child's. Let me know if it was yours. thanks, antonia

Join us for the Dance Craze
Hi Friends, Taffety Punk is about to launch our three week celebration of one of theatre's purest elements. We're calling it the Dance Craze. For the next three weekends we will feature a set of of new works by eight choreographers. We took special care to put younger, up and coming choreographers on the same bill with the more experienced. Think of it as supporting bands opening for the headliner. This will be Paulina's last show with us before she runs off to get that pesky PhD. I hope you can make it tomorrow night to give her a big Taffety Punk "WE LOVE YOU" as she presents the world premiere of "From Your Representatives, with Love" -- which she's also dancing in! This new work explores the miraculous idea of congressional employees releasing their artistic souls. It features a live score by Josh Taylor who will mix real world sounds into his composition. I know this is a busy time for everyone. And tomorrow night is short notice, but we'd love to see you there. But I just wanted to get the word out! We're at the Capitol Hill Arts Workshop, 545 7th Street SE, WDC 20003. The show starts at 8pm. Tickets can be reserved at tix.taffetypunk.com. More details are below. Thanks! CHRS Presents: Backyard Vegetable Gardening
Perhaps of interest. CHRS = Capitol Hill Restoration Society ---- CHRS Presents: Backyard Vegetable Gardening If you want to grow vegetables but haven¡¯t been able to get a place in a community garden, go to CHRS¡¯s May 18 Preservation Caf¨¦ on Backyard Vegetable Gardening. After a brief introduction to local community gardens and how to get on a waiting list, Hill resident Pat Taylor will focus on what to do at home while you¡¯re waiting in order to produce those fresh vegetables you¡¯re longing for. She will discuss how to grow veggies and herbs in containers and raised beds; the best kinds of soil, conditions, and locations for success; and how to maintain, harvest, and enjoy your plantings. An expert on urban vegetable gardening, Pat Taylor has been growing vegetables for some 30 years and is coordinator of the King¡¯s Court Community Garden. Spring is here and it¡¯s prime planting time, so mark your calendar for Backyard Vegetable Gardening on Wednesday, May 18, from 6:30-7:15 p.m. The Preservation Caf¨¦ will be held downstairs at Ebenezers Coffeehouse at 2nd and F Streets, NE. The Caf¨¦ is free, accessible, and open to all in the Capitol Hill community; no reservations are necessary.

Stolen bikes??? 4
All, Last night (Fri) around 11pm Paxton noticed some kids come out of the alley on bikes that didn't seem to be theirs (one had a child's seat on the back). He called 911, just to make sure, but he was on his way out (friends picking him up). The police called him back around 12:15am and said that they have the kids and the bikes, but that they were just trying to figure out the story / where the bikes came from. If anyone is missing bikes this morning, please get in touch with us. Thank you.

Redistricting Meeting with Councilmember Michael Brown 5
Neighbors, Please consider attending this if you are able. It is important to show CM Brown that we ALL care about the integrity of Ward 6, and that it is not worth his while to vote in favor of any dramatic shifts in population from one Ward to another. CM Brown is one of our At-Large Council Members, and is up for election next year. Redistricting Rally [1 Attachment]
fyi. Did a little research and what you could do for redistricting as an alternative to going into ward 6 is pull from Ward 5 which is connected to ward 7 as opposed to to going into ward 6 just to get eastern HS (which i hear is considered quite the prize now since it has gotten that beautiful renovation), which appears to part of their goal. I don't even think eastern is inbounds for those districts.

Redistricting Rally 2
Yes. That's correct. Pulling from Ward 5 is equally viable, and in some ways makes more sense. Ward 2 has to loose population and shares a longer boundary with Ward 5. Another, more outlandish scenario would be for Ward 8 to jump the river at Haines Point and gain the population it needs by taking it directly from Ward 2. The key point is that there are other options that should be considered. BTW- A group of us just met w/ CM Mendelhson--he's inclined to redistrict with the objective of balancing the population of all Wards...that's not good for us, and we need to let him know it.

Bicycle in the Gessford Court Alley
We looked out the window this morning and saw an upside down bicycle sans rear wheel and a broken chain in the 11 Street side of the Gessford court alley. It is a blue trek. We moved it to the sidewalk in front of 230 11 Street where it remains. Cheers, Rick

Down not out 4
Neighbors, Bad news for us tonight on redistricting. The plan divides Hill East at 17th St, ceding Reservation 13, Congressional Cemetery and Rosedale to Ward 7, while offering the one concession of keeping Elliot-Hine and Eastern in Ward 6 (maps are here: http://www.scribd.com/dmeadows9139). You'll notice when you look at the maps that Ward 5 was not even touched. Redistricting comes solely at the expense of Ward 6, belying the purely political nature of the decision. Well we may be down, but we're not out. Here's the schedule for future redistricting activities: 1. Subcommittee mark-up vote will be tomorrow at 1 pm in Room 123 of the Wilson Building, 1350 Pennsylvania Ave, SE. This is a public meeting and you are welcome to attend. 2. Additional hearing will be held on Wednesday, June 1st, 6:00 pm in Room 500 of the Wilson Building. This is a public meeting and you are welcome to attend and testify. 3. At this time, the Council will likely take up the proposal for all 13 members to vote on Tuesday, June 7th, 10:00 am in Room 500 of the Wilson Building. This is a public meeting and you are welcome to attend. Now is the time to expand our lobbying to include the Council Chair, CM Alexander, CM Orange and CM Catania. Don't let up, not for a second!!
