Brian Pate

Neighbors,

A few items of interest and a reminder:

Trees?
ANC6B's Outreach and Constituent Services Task Force meeting on Wednesday, 24 October, 7PM at the Hill Center, will feature representatives from the District's Urban Forestry Administration. ?The draft agenda follows. ?After we're done with the Urban Forestry Administration, feel free to "leave" (ha-ha-ha), or stick around for an update on the ANC's vacant and blighted property efforts.

? ? ? ?A. ?Disease
? ? ? ?B. ?Weather impacts
? ? ? ?C. ?True or False -- Trees seem to have died off at a greater rate this past season?
? ? ? ?D. ?How are our "great trees" faring? ?We lost two 150-year old oaks on 8th St due to the dericho, how can we keep these trees healthy, or is that even realistic?

? ? ? ?B. ?How can the ANC help?
IV. ?7:25-7:35 - Tree boxes

? ? ? ?B. ?What are the regulations and best practices for caring for tree boxes?
V. ?7:35-7:45 - Ward 6 pruning and removal work load
? ? ? ?A. ?Our backlog seems much larger than other Wards, why?
? ? ? ?B. ?Why is there a disparity between the advertised time for pruning (30-days) and the actual time it takes to get a tree pruned?
? ? ? ?C. ?What is UFA's capacity for tree work? ?In-house/Contracted? ?
? ? ? ?D. ?What if someone wants to "do their own" work on a tree in public space?
? ? ? ?E. ?Are there any trees that can be removed without a permit?
VI. ?7:45-8:00PM - Q&A
Community Security Walk
Rally at the corner of Kentucky and Independence Avenue on Wednesday, the 24th (after the O&CS meeting!) at 9PM to join your neighbors and MPD for a security walk. ?The walk is dedicated to Meg Mitcham, a neighbor on 11th Street and driving force behind previous security walks who is, sadly, moving off the Hill. ?We'll be passing out notes encouraging people to keep on their porch lights.

Safety Festival
A reminder about tomorrow's Ward 6 Safety Festival at the Brent School from 11AM to 4PM. ?The event will feature a raffle, live music, Fire and Emergency Services displays, MPD displays, a Womens' Self-Defense clinic and a variety of other activities. ?The event will raise money for the Maslin family. ?

As always, please contact me if you have any questions or concerns.

Regards,
