Info on upcoming neighborhood walk and update on latest incident at 3rd and NC Ave SE

Brian Pate

All,

Just want to provide you with information from my colleague, Ivan Frishberg, and CDR Hickson on another violent robbery last night. ?

If you're interested in doing something proactive in response, please join me and several others for a neighborhood walk this Saturday night, from 9PM to 11PM. ?Acting on an idea from a neighbor, our theme for the walk will be, "Do your bit, keep it lit!" ?We'll be putting flyers on dark homes, encouraging them to turn on their porch lights. ?The walk will be coordinated with MPD. ?Rally at the corner of 13th & Independence.

Stay safe,

Brian

Neighbors,

Last night there was yet another assault in our neighborhood. ?Commander Hickson has a note below with the details. ?If there is anything we can do to assist MPD in solving some of these cases it would be extremely important. ?We are very fortunate that this case last night did not result in the same kind of injuries as in the TC Maslin case but it would have been quite possible based on the description of the assault I received.

While we cannot and should not change the way we live in our own neighborhood, ?we have to be especially smart right now in avoiding riskier situations and following the prevention tips of MPD (see links in last email). ? Let's also be extra vigilant and observant in the weeks ahead as MPD works to solve these cases.

Thanks.

Ivan

At about 2:30 AM a resident was approached in the 300 block of North Carolina Ave SE by two suspects who displayed a handgun, assaulted and robbed him. The description provided by the victim was for two black males, both described as 20 years old, 5'4", 150 pounds wearing a white sleeveless shirt.

Obviously, due to the time and location of the assault, investigators are exploring any connection to the Maslin case; however, as of the moment a direct correlation has not been established. If I do learn of anything further, and I am able to release the information, I will certainly pass it to you and the community.

While I am disappointed with the robbery this morning, we have had a significant impact with our deployments to the area recently. We will keep after the issue and I will keep you advised the best I can, feel free to contact me anytime.
