Just to follow up, I received a call from Lt. Fowler shortly after I sent the e-mail.
He reports that four youths robbed a man of his cell phone after he refused to give it to them. The police put out a watch and made one arrest in conjunction with the case. No word on whether or not this crime is at all related to some of the other recent youth crimes in the area.
More to follow, I'm sure.
Thanks,
Brian

Post Sandy damage assessment
Neighbors,
Just returned from walking the SMD. ?Other than the great oak down at 214 8th St, I did not note any significant public damage. ?Please let me know if I missed anything or if you need any help coordinating with City agencies.
On a side note, I was happy to see that the new alley between 9th &10th Streets drained well. ?Nothing like a 100-year rain event to stress test the alley!

Fw: The storm and your roof- Some emergency suggestions

From: Tom Daniel To: rtd80209@... Sent: Monday, October 29, 2012 5:26 PM Subject: The storm and your roof- Some emergency suggestions
Hello Customers and DC Homeowners,
We have managed to secure some extraordinary roofing emergencies in the last 2 days. We have been unable to return many phone calls that have been in the hundreds so we wanted to provide some storm emergency suggestions here.
First, if you have water coming in the house through the ceiling you may want to make a small incision (or several) in the ceiling plaster/drywall to enable the water to drain and, of course, have buckets or other containers at the ready to capture the draining water. This will help reduce the amount of internal damage to your ceilings.
If water is coming in through windows, we suggest using duct tape attached directly to the frame or attach plastic bags to the frame secured by the duct tape.
If water is coming in through skylight glass and you can safely access the skylight from inside your house, the duct tape method might also be useful. But, if the water flow is too
great, you should just use buckets to capture it. And, possibly, make some incisions in the plaster/drywall near the skylight leak to help with drainage.
If water is overflowing your gutter and running down a wall into the house or windows, one of the above methods may be useful.
Take care everyone and best of luck.

Thanks Danielle,? My daughter has regular poster paints, stickers, face paints that she'll bring for the kids. And she wants to work with any adult that will volunteer to supervise the kids. On our end we have 1 kid but she has her pumpkin that she'll bring.?

Hi neighbors, If you have a white Honda pilot parked in front of 226 11th st SE, could you move it? Meg and Marc at 228 have permit for the moving truck to park there. However, they can't fully park the truck due to that. I'm not on the Gessford court list serve so can't put the word out there. If anyone is please extend the message. There may be a tow truck come by to move it.
Thanks. Elizabeth

Ok, so looks like we are not going to take the chances. Mother Nature may hit around the time our party starts or later on Sunday. A lot of weather talk this morning on news. People in Maryland and Virginia are buying sand bags etc. It sounds intense to me. We will move back the party to Saturday but same time 4-7. I apologize for any inconvenience however, we can't change nature. Unless people have better solutions.?
Thanks Maureen for alerting us.?

Hi neighbors,
I look forward to our Halloween party in the alley this weekend, unfortunately, there is a weather pattern (from Hurricane Sandy) coming up the coast that will move into our area on Sunday bringing rain and cold temps.
I work at the National Weather Service and our folks are calling this a big rain/wind storm that will be trapped over the region for 5 days beginning on Sunday morning. Flooding is a major concern for tidal areas while several feet of snow is being predicted in the mountains of PA and WV.
Peak days for the storm are Mon and Tues., with preliminary rains starting on Sunday.
While I prefer to have our Halloween party on Sunday, I think we should consider moving it to Saturday to ensure that we don't get rained out.
Here's an AP article on the storm
