Free soil testing event
Our Toxics Cleanup Program is partnering with other state and local public health agencies on soil testing events this spring. Bring in a soil sample from your yard (watch our on how to collect a sample for best results) to have it tested for arsenic and lead. These soil testing events are part of our work to clean up contamination from the that operated in Tacoma for nearly a century.

Responses to comments available for two LDW cleanup sites
The and the had public comment periods this past winter. We have reviewed all comments received during these two comment periods and have prepared responses. All responses were sent to those that commented earlier this month. Read our responses on each site’s webpage.?
Early application period for clean water grants and loans
The annual application period for Ecology’s clean water funding is happening earlier this year. This funding program covers hundreds of projects a year, including wastewater and stormwater infrastructure, stormwater community-based public-private partnerships, stream restoration, and outreach and education activities. The application cycle will run from July 22 to Sept. 3, 2025; funding will be announced by July 2026. Local governments, Tribes, universities, conservation districts and nonprofit organizations can all be eligible for funding. More information on clean water funding is available at

Ecology is lead agency for Source Control in the Superfund Site. The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is lead agency for sediment cleanup in the Lower Duwamish Waterway.
