$336,000 in the King County Council budget for preparation and recovery from potential flooding, as well as flood insurance for unincorporated King County residents in South Park. $40,000 for Concord PTA¡¯s general operating budget from City of Seattle $5,000 for South Park Neighborhood Association programming from South Park Area Redevelopment Committee $5,000 for flood preparation for unincorporated King County residents from Washington State University Continued local and accessible summer youth programming by Parks and Recreation and Seattle Academy of Arts and Sciences, free for all (about 60 families served) Teen and Tween Late Night to continue at Concord Elementary for the duration of the South Park Community Center¡¯s closure $110 million for the WA Dept. of Transportation for a zero-emission Medium and Heavy Duty vehicle voucher program from the federal government Funding and execution of the Zero Emission Drayage Truck Incentive Program, which aims to provide funding and assistance to drayage truckers. The funding provides between 50-80% of the cost of a zero-emission truck and necessary charging/fueling infrastructure $3 million from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA( for the Northwest Seaport Alliance to conduct an emissions inventory, a feasibility study, workforce development and community engagement, and planning for climate resilience $3 million from the EPA for the Port of Seattle to conduct a vessel and maritime fuel inventory, feasibility studies, and engagement with the community Meetings attended in support of community organizing in 2024: Monthly:?

Public feedback is critical to guiding the priorities for CCAP development, as well as topics for further engagement in your region over the next year. You can complete the Washington CCAP Survey to provide input on GHG reduction measures, sectors of focus, and co-benefits of climate action that are important to you and your community. |
| This year, DRCC is focusing on four main legislative priorities that will help protect the health and wellbeing of our Duwamish Valley community:
1. The Cumulative Risk Burden (CURB) Pollution Act to change Washington's permitting process to include Frontline communities and environmental justice concerns.
2. Phasing-out leaded aviation fuel by 2031 at all Washington airports to protect health. Lead is banned in our paint, homes, and car fuel. Let's get it out of our airplane fuel to improve the health outcomes of airport-impacted communities.
3. Protecting the Advanced Clean Trucks rule from misinformation and bad-faith actors who are prioritizing profit over the health of Washingtonians and our environment.
4. Ensuring that the legislature is allocating budget funds that live up to the environmental justice and climate promises of the Healthy Environment for All (HEAL) Act and the Climate Commitment Act. |

We are so grateful to Thuy Numrich, our Community Advocacy Team (CAT) member and community health worker, who will be leaving our team this year, but will remain an active member of the community and continue her work with the South Park Senior Citizens.
She has done so many wonderful things and we cannot express how happy we are that she was a part of this team. We appreciated the proactivity and joy that she brought to all her work.?
This past year she led efforts educating families on asthma triggers and air pollution in places ranging from people's homes, to community events, and through radio station presentations.?
She is highly respected by the rest of the DRCC team, her community health worker team, and DRCC's CAT. Please join me in thanking Thuy Numrich for all her work!?

What¡¯s happening now on the Duwamish River Cleanup:January 2025
During the week of January 13: Cleanup activities will continue in Sediment Management Areas (SMAs) 2, 3, 4, 6, and 9.? See the map of cleanup areas linked below. Cleanup at SMA 7 has been rescheduled to Season 2 of construction.?Work at SMA 9 includes continued installation of sheet pile. This may cause higher noise levels.?? Contractors will begin backfilling in SMAs where dredging of contaminated material has been completed, replacing it with clean material. Barges will bring the clean material to the SMA, and an excavator on a separate barge will place the material in and around the dredged area.??SMA 3 will be backfilled first.?SMA 4 backfilling may also start this week depending upon the completion of SMA 3.?? Construction is ongoing from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturdays. Movement of barges may occur outside of these work hours. What is happening in our CLEAN AIR PROGRAM? |
The Duwamish Valley Youth Corps Winter cohort has started! |
| We would like to begin by giving a warm welcome to all of the new and returning DVYC youth to our winter program! We hosted orientation last week and were thrilled to see over 70 youth who took the time and made the commitment to show up. It was a great pleasure to meet so many new folks as well as to reconnect with our returnees. We are humbled to know that so many of the young folks in this community look to DVYC for engaging, educational, and rewarding afterschool programming. Thank you! This winter we are looking forward to hosting another heartwarming, intergenerational program in partnership with the South Park Public Library - The Learning Buddies! In this group, 10 of our DVYC youth get to work with elementary school students on educational games to strengthen their understanding of mathematics, language, and speaking skills. Last year we saw how this program provided mentorship for young children, while also helping DVYC youth to build their leadership skills as role models for the next generation. This group will also have the opportunity to work on mural design for future artwork in South Park! Stay tuned to our next newsletter to learn more about the other cohorts that we are hosting this winter season! We¡¯re so excited to get another program started, and can¡¯t wait to share more with our community as the year unfolds! |

Welding operations are anticipated, with noise levels expected to remain typical for construction work.???

Contractors will begin backfilling in SMAs where the dredging of contaminated material has been completed to replace it with clean material. Barges will bring the clean material to the SMA, and an excavator on a separate barge will place the material in and around the dredged area.??

SMA 3 will be backfilled first.?SMA 4 backfilling may also start this week depending upon the completion of SMA 3.??

Camp Erin Overview
Camp Erin? King County is free of charge to all participants and provides a caring environment, filled with activities to assist children and teens
(ages 6 ¨C 17 or 18 if still in school) coping with loss. Camp Erin offers a special combination of fun recreational activities and supportive discussions to help campers build their trust, self-esteem and coping skills. Age-appropriate groups of children and
teens provide an opportunity to meet with peers who have had similar feelings and experiences. Planned activities allow for sharing of feelings and concerns, friendship building, and fun. The camp is facilitated by professional staff affiliated with Providence
Hospice of King County program, as well as trained volunteers. Adult ¡°Big Buddy¡± volunteers offer additional support and companionship for campers.

Georgetown to Downtown Safety Project Update
Crews have been making steady progress on completing the protected bike lanes on Airport Way S. We rechannelized the road to accommodate the future protected bike lane and other design elements that aim to improve safety for all travelers. You will begin to see the bike lane fully take shape during the next few weeks, along with other pedestrian and safety improvements in the project area.
Over the next few weeks, you¡¯ll see the following construction activities in the area:
- Installing concrete protected bike lanes on Airport Way S from S Edmunds St and moving north from the intersection
- Installing improvements to utilities, sidewalks, and curb ramps on Airport Way S near the intersections of S Lucile St and S Edmunds St
- Electrical improvements at the intersection of Airport Way S and S Lucile St
- Preparation for installing protected bike lanes on 6th Ave S ?
What to expect during construction:
- The northbound through-lane on Airport Way S will be reduced to a single lane 24/7. We recommend commuters driving northbound to detour to 4th Ave S before S Lucile St.
- Pedestrian access will be maintained. Pedestrian detours may be longer than usual.
- Access to businesses will be maintained
- Typical work hours are from Monday to Friday, starting at 9:00 AM and finishing at 3:00 PM
- We will avoid work and traffic control during the peak hours of 7:00 AM to 9:00 AM and 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM
- We may need to temporarily change the traffic flow to accommodate the construction work.
- There will be temporary restrictions on parking.
- Some of the work activities might be noisy. This includes using backup alarms for safety, heavy vehicles, and power tools.
- Some construction may require temporary changes to bus routes. Visit the??for rider alerts.

Construction of the is anticipated to start on the evening of Tuesday, November 5 on the Airport Way S bridge and at the intersection of Airport Way S and S Lucille St. The start of the project is weather dependent and subject to change. Crews are dredging to remove contaminated sediments from the river bottom of the Lower Duwamish Waterway. Water quality monitoring is performed during dredging operations. After removal, dredged material is transported by barge to a permitted facility next to the waterway where it is transferred to land, loaded into rail cars, and taken to Waste Management¡¯s Columbia Ridge Commercial Landfill (a permitted landfill) in Arlington, Oregon for disposal.??

Cleanup began in late November and has been focused on sediment management areas (SMA) 3, 4, and 6.

What to expect during the weeks of December 9 and 16 | |

As linked below, during the weeks of December 9 and 16, cleanup construction will continue in SMA 3, 4, and 6 and construction will begin in SMA 2, 7, and 9. Work is generally being done in two SMAs at a time. After dredging is complete in each area, clean sand will be placed over the river bottom using similar equipment.?

Beginning the week of December 9, and continuing over the next two weeks, crews plan to start sheet pile installation next to SMA 9. Sheet piles, which consist of large metal sheets, will be driven into the ground to shore up the land before debris removal and dredging at SMA 9. Sheet pile installation may cause higher noise levels during the daytime. Thank you for your patience as we continue the cleanup.?

the summer-fall and am back part time getting back up to speed. We hope you all are doing well as we wrap up 2024.

Georgetown to South Park Connection Update
Construction on the Georgetown to South Park Safety project began on Monday, November 18!
Over the next few weeks, you'll see the following activities at the north end of the project area:
- Removing and repaving roadway pavement and sidewalk on S Bailey St from 12th Ave S to 13th Ave S and 13th Ave S from S Bailey St to Albro Pl
- Rebuilding the traffic island at the southwest corner of S Albro Pl & 13th Ave S, north of S Hardy St
Traffic control
- Permanent parking removal on the north side of S Bailey St between 12th and 13th Ave S and on the west side of 13th Ave S
- Temporary parking restrictions in all work zones including on S Bailey St, 13th Ave S, and S Albro Pl

The Flume site (located on S Myrtle St), formerly owned by Seattle City Light (SCL), will now serve as an off-leash area (dog park) and a shared-use path for those walking, biking, and rolling between Georgetown and South Park.?
The dog park project is expected to begin the process of contractor selection in the coming weeks, with construction?expected to begin later this year?at the Georgetown ¡®Flume¡¯ property!
