Design review is currently required for most new larger buildings in the City of Seattle. It includes public notice with the ability for neighborhoods to comment on the appearance
of new buildings. City of Seattle Staff and volunteer Design Review Boards review new buildings to make sure they meet the Design Guidelines.

Recent changes to Washington State law require us to make changes to Seattle¡¯s Design Review program.
?
SEVA Workshop is asking for people¡¯s feedback on several topics, including:?
- Which areas of Seattle should require Design Review for new construction
- Which types of new construction should go through Design Review
- When and how people can comment on new construction projects
- How to update the Design Guidelines to be easier to understand
- How adding incentives for new construction could improve equity
Some of the possible design review program changes could include:
- Limiting projects to only one public meeting,
- Streamlining the Design Review process to be quicker and less costly for applicants, and
- Reducing the number of projects that are required to go through Design Review (if new construction does not require
design review, then most new buildings will not include any public comment period or public notice)

Who:??The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the members of the Lower Duwamish Waterway Group (LDWG), which includes Boeing, the City of Seattle, and King County, will begin cleanup of the Lower Duwamish Waterway Superfund Site soon!
Where: The Lower Duwamish Waterway Superfund Site is divided into three segments: lower, middle, and upper. Construction will take place in the ¡®Upper Reach¡¯ areas shown in green on the ¡®Map of the Cleanup Area¡¯ which extends from the South 102nd Street bridge downstream to the Duwamish Waterway Park.
When: Once started, construction in the Upper Reach is expected to continue for three years, usually from October to February, ending in February 2027. In-water construction activities are restricted to these months to limit impacts on certain fish species.
What: Construction in the Upper Reach includes three types: dredging (removing sediment), capping (covering sediment), and natural recovery process. During construction, some of the things community members can expect to see include:
- Construction equipment on the water, including tugboats, excavators on barges, and barges carrying material to and from work areas.
- Construction workers using certain shoreline areas for storage and sediment transportation. Specifically, there will be barges at the Duwamish Reload Facility (Waste Management) at 7400 8th Avenue South, and equipment transferring dredged sediment from barge to land. The material will be dewatered and carried via rail to a regulated landfill.
- Boats on the river for water sampling.
- People working mostly weekdays between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m., and some Saturdays between 9a.m. and 7p.m. Night work (after 7 p.m.) will only happen if necessary due to tides and other factors and the project team will provide advance notice to affected South Park residents, including marina residents, and businesses.
- Lights for safe work during dark hours, noise related to construction equipment, and diesel emissions from tugs and working equipment.

Maritime High School Enrollmen window
Hi neighbors
One of DRCC's partners, the Maritime High School in the Highline District, has opened its enrollment window. MHS is a public school which uses project-based learning and focuses on a wide array of maritime jobs and careers. All of its classes are taught through
the lens of the maritime industry. They reserve 49% of their spaces for kids outside of Highline, with the intention of providing pathways to Maritime for Duwamish Valley kids. There are a handful of South Park kids there currently but it is a great option
if your kids wants different things than the high schools you are considering.?Please let me know if you have any questions or if you would like to connect me to someone at the school.

I am writing in support of the following initiatives regarding South Park and Georgetown.? We are an historically?under-resourced, immigrant and refugee and diverse community.? Please support the following funding for our neighborhood.
FOOD DESERT - Fund a study to get us a GROCERY STORE (mail drop, banking and pharmacy included?) so we can have easy access to fresh food and services for our families.
BUSINESS IMPROVEMENT AREA (BIA): Fund a study to?help us become a BIA.? We desperately need to?fund projects aimed at enhancing our economic vitality, appearance, and public safety.? This would benefit the collective interests of our small businesses and our neighborhood families and residents.
CLEAN HEALTHY ENVIRONMENT - Funding for the?Clean Energy Workforce Development to support our small businesses, including our many industrial neighbors, and restore funding to the?Duwamish Valley Green Workforce Development.? The Duwamish Valley is currently not a healthy place for our neighborhood. We need help to improve our air and soils, and to ensure there is less pollution in the future.?

Georgetown to Downtown Safety Project Update
Crews recently completed the first phase of work along Airport Way S. We reconfigured the road to accommodate the future protected bike lane and other design elements that aim to improve safety for all travelers.
As soon as Monday, November 25 (typical work hours)
- Crews will remove sidewalk and roadway pavement to begin improving underground utilities at the?southwest corner of the Airport Way S and S Lucile St intersection
- Crews will remove sidewalk and roadway pavement to begin installing storm drain improvements at?the intersection of Airport Way S and S Edmunds St
What to expect during construction:
- Typical work hours are from Monday to Friday, starting at 9:00 A.M. and finishing at 3:00 P.M.
- We will avoid work and traffic control during the peak hours of 7:00 A.M. to 9:00 A.M. and 4:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M.
- We may need to temporarily change the traffic flow to accommodate the construction work.
- There will be temporary restrictions on parking.
- Some of the work activities might be noisy. This includes using backup alarms for safety, heavy vehicles, and power tools.
- Some construction may require temporary changes to bus routes. Visit the??for rider alerts.
- Pedestrian access will be maintained
- Access to businesses will be maintained
Construction work at the Airport Way S and S Lucile St intersection is expected to continue through February 2025. We will continue to post bi-weekly construction updates on this webpage and the project listserv through construction.?

Construction of the is anticipated to start on the evening of Tuesday, November 5 on the Airport Way S bridge and at the intersection of Airport Way S and S Lucille St. The start of the project is weather dependent and subject to change. Thank you for your patience as we prepare the work site to begin construction.

Project Design
During construction, you will see us making the following changes:

Two-way protected bike lane on the west side of the street from Airport Way S and S Lucille St to S Nevada St and 6th Ave S
-
One-way protected bike lanes on 6th Ave S from S Nevada St to S Forest St
-
Two-way, center turn lane on 6th Ave S from south of S Forest St to S Spokane St, making it safer and easier for vehicles to enter and exit driveways

S Spokane St and Airport Way S: New traffic signal, signalized bike crossing, and bike ramp
-
S Lucile St and Airport Way S: New signalized bike crossing, ADA curb ramps, and refreshed crosswalk markings

All-way stop on 6th Ave S at both the intersections with S Alaska St and S Nevada St?

Raised bus stop on the west side of Airport Way S at S Edmonds St
-
Parking removal on the west side of 6th from Alaska to Industrial to allow for two-way freight movements.

I am writing in follow-up on SPNA¡¯s past engagement with the Port on the Parks Management Strategy, which was in February and August of this year.? We¡¯re very excited to report that we now have a draft strategy document to move us closer
to our goal of making the parks more relevant to the community.? At the heart of the document you will find 11 strategies for changes in the parks, which start on page 25 of the PDF file.? The document is attached.

In particular the following contents of the strategy directly respond to our engagement with SPNA:? building public awareness of the parks on page PDF 40; and youth-targeted programming on page PDF 37.? Please let me know if SPNA has

housing or contribute to the Seattle Office of Housing fund to support the development of affordable housing.

The Office of Housing wants to hear from community-based organizations to gain insight into the current outreach efforts done by housing providers and identify areas of improvement for their outreach efforts. We encourage you to respond
