Stagecoach Yorkshire 12/11 2
Holbrook's E400MMC 11716 (YX73 PFJ), recently repainted in to the trial 'midnight blue' Stagecoach livery has been back through the paintshop and received a fresh coat of paint - still overall blue, but a bit lighter than the previous version. This. presumably, is another trial livery. Delivery is due to commence shortly of the first batches of electric vehicles for Chesterfield depot funded through the government ZEBRA funding. Expected to be delivered first are the two batches of Yutong single decks - 6 E10 models and 12 longer E12 models, to be followed later by 39 Alexander Dennis E400EV deckers. Ian

A quick update on recent developments... E400MMCs 10659 (from Barnsley) and 11712 (from Holbrook) have gained allover "Poppy" wraps as part of Stagecoach's commitment to the Armed Forces Covenant. Tomorrow marks the last day of Peak Sightseer operation for 2024. The 3 Open Tops on loan from Stagecoach South West (18186, 18303 and 19107) have returned Devon, allowing the E200s that went on loan in the opposite direction (36444-6) to return to Chesterfield ahead of this weekends service changes. Fans of the E400 Hybrids may wish to start saying farewell - they are being sold to Transport for Greater Manchester as part of the new franchises being introduced in Manchester in January which see the Stagecoach operated Ashton Under Lyne, Hyde Road and Sharston depots pass to other operators (Stagecoach selected which vehicles to offer to TfGM and has - sensibly in my view - off-loaded many of their E400 Hybrids). Replacements will be E400MMCs freed up as a result of Stagecoach losing the above depots/subsequent shuffling of vehicles. Ian

The end of Belle Isle depot? 3
Following the latest structural issues where I gather part of the roof has collapsed, Arriva have started an emergency withdrawal from Belle Isle depot. At present only the outside parking area is in use, with other vehicles stored overnight in Wakefield Bus Station and at Castleford and Dewsbury depots, the latter also doing servicing work. The local rag is reporting most of the site is set to be demolished - https://www.wakefieldexpress.co.uk/news/people/arriva-yorkshire-headquarters-and-wakefield-bus-depot-permanently-closed-due-to-structural-problem-4785835 Ian

Arriva Yorkshire new E400s 4
Gather a batch of 14x new ADL E400s are due at Belle Isle - presumably for Wakefield - Leeds services in the near future. Suggestion is they will release the Streetdecks to Castleford, in turn releasing E400s to the 'Woollen' side (Dewsbury or Heckmondwike) for services in to Leeds. Ian

Stagecoach new livery
Barnsley depots E400MMC 10661 (YX66 WDD) has been off the road for several weeks and in the paint booth whilst different livery applications for a new standard Stagecoach livery (to replace the current "overcomplicated" white/blue/green/orange scheme) were trailed on it. It has re-entered service today in the new livery - overall (very) dark blue with the Stagecoach logo towards the rear and the blue/orange/green stripes on the front grille. If the last one was overcomplicated this one is very much undercomplicated, perhaps even baron, and hopefully will have some lettering applied to break up the overall dark blue. E200MMC 26087 (YY16 YJS) has also received the new scheme and I believe is due to reenter service at Barnsley (ex Rawmarsh). Ian

Watersons Coaches
R&S Waterson Ltd (trading as Watersons Coaches), owned by Scott Wooley who also owns Globe Holidays Ltd, has ceased trading today. Watersons operated service 36 (Barnsley - South Elmsall) and 249 (Pontefract - South Elmsall) both of which will not operate after today (though no such cancellations have been lodged with VOSA). Replacement services - operated by Globe - start tomorrow. The 36 is replaced by a re-routing and re-timetabling of existing Globe service 39 (Barnsley - South Elmsall - Pontefract), whilst a like for like replacement for the 249 is also provided by Globe albeit with a slightly revised timetable. One wonders if the Traffic Commissioner will look in to this? One operator ceases with no notice period with another operator under the same common ownership stepping straight in to replace...? Ian

Sheffield consultations 7
Seen elsewhere, there are proposed changes in Sheffield and Rotherham/Barnsley that are now out for consultation - and for the first time in a while, there actually seem to be some improvements rather than just cuts. Notable changes are the removal of the 95 to Walkley (replaced by the 54/55, providing a better and faster link from Handsworth the other side of town), the return of the 47/48, an extension of the 56 to Manor Top, and frequency increases on the 81/82 and 88... Another long overdue update... A launch event was held at Wentworth Woodhouse on Tuesday for the new Yutong 'electro' fleet (photos at https://twitter.com/MattK1979 for those interested). The 23 vehicles, fleet numbers 73001-23 are registered YH24 LZS-X, YH24MBF/U/V/X/Y/MDE/F/J/K/N/O/U/V/X/Y/Z/EU and - subject to the charging infrastructure at the depot being completed on time - should begin entering service a week on Monday on routes 221 (Rotherham - Doncaster) and 22X (Rotherham - Barnsley). Resulting cascades out of Rawmarsh should see off the remaining MANs in the fleet. Recently open-topped Scania/E400 15717 (YN60 CKK) and ex Lincolnshire B7TL/Wrights 16943 (FX06 AOE) are both now in the Peak Sightseer livery. Two open top Trident/ALX400s (18186 - MX54 LPN and 18303 - WA05 MGX) plus one open top Enviro 400 (TBC) are coming in on loan from Stagecoach South West to provide 8 vehicles (15717-9, 16943, 18467 + the 3 loanees) to cover the 6 PVR Peak Sighteer operation for this year which commences on Saturday.
