Hulleys of Baslow. Going, going...
Whilst I normally avoid posting rumours it seems to be an open secret that Hulleys aren't long for this world, with several reports suggesting tomorrow may be their last day of operation.
I'll avoid repeating the speculation, ?there's plenty of it on some Internet chat forums, but it's well known they are currently undergoing a Public Inquiry process which found numerous areas of concern and adjourned for 3 months to see if things could be improved. Seemingly they couldn't, as Derbyshire County Council gave notice on 13th March they were terminating all the contracts they had with Hulleys (the 63, 110/111, 172 and 173 - a PVR of 6) effective of 7th April and were seeking new providers. That re-tendering process has seemingly sped up with relevant operators preparing to step in now as early as Tuesday as the writing seems to be very much on the wall. If this is the end of this long established and largely well respected operator. One hopes the staff are able to quickly find alternative employment and the rural communities Hulleys serve are not too disadvantaged as a result. Ian |
Hi all It was announced to staff at 10am today that all operations will cease after service on Wednesday. A further update on the below... Derbyshire County Council have awarded contracts to Stagecoach Yorkshire (for the 63), Ashbourne Community Transport (for the 110 / 111), Andrews of Tideswell (for the 172, 173 and 178) and Linburg for the contracted elements of the 257.? These commence on Thursday. Stagecoach have also announced they will be running an hourly Chesterfield Station - Chesterfield - Bakewell version of the 170 on a commercial basis from tomorrow, Wednesday. For anyone interested there's a good write-up on the recent history of Hulleys here -? Ian On Mon, Mar 24, 2025 at 12:55?PM ian@yorkshirebus <yorkshirebus@...> wrote:

Interestingly, High Peak have also announced they will be running the 170! Stagecoach's timetable shows an hourly daily daytime service between Bakewell and Chesterfield Station omitting Holymoorside except at schooltime. High Peak's shows an hourly service to broadly current route ant times but Monday to Saturday daytime only. It will be interesting to see how this resolves itself. It appears Hulleys demise has now completed, a day earlier than anticipated.

All buses returned to Baslow within the last hour or so upon news that there was no money left to pay staff for their work today or tomorrow. A local recovery contractor is also blocking access to/from the depot with their wreckers until they are paid monies they claim they are owed. A sad end for this once great operator. High Peak have now withdrawn their 170 registration without it ever starting. For the record, Stagecoach are using deckers on the 170 today and an E300 on the 63.
