Re: Best Fabrics for Summer Masks?
I don’t think you will get much other than an N95 that will give you more than 90% effectiveness, so 83% is pretty good! ? But I would have thought poly-lycra chiffon would be both hot and itchy even if it is lightweight. It’s been over 30 C here three days in a? row so yes, I’m thinking about coolness too. Although we only need to wear them in a smaller shop or in public transport, not outdoors or in a big supermarket with good social distancing. Oh, and in a plane – and I am heading for DH in Geneva on Thursday (hoping no quarantine to get back into UK by the time I return). ? Interestingly I see a better fit to the face on the home-made fabric masks than on the medical ones even with a nose-piece. ? How is everyone doing? I look at your infection figures and grieve (not that we did so well ourselves either). Fingers crossed for us all ? Jenny ?

Re: Need help calculating how much to spin
Grin.... Based on my samples, I'd need 800 gm of the main color but I'm going to spin my 700 gm and then see what I get. After all, I'm not a machine so who knows how well I'll match my samples?
But since that is what I have, I will spin all of it and then design the sweater around the yardage I have. That is the beauty of not using a pattern.

Or do I need 1125 yds of MC and 900 yds of CC? - This just seems wrong to me but I don't know.
There aren't too many projects on Ravelry that have been completed and have yarn quantities listed for this pattern. But the 80/100 split looks about right - that project used 5 skeins of the MC and 4 of the CC in a DK weight yarn which is what I'm getting. Another project has double the amount of yarn but she's made a tunic. She also doesn't split out the quantity between the colors.?
?- pattern
I looked up Janine's book but since she is talking about FI with multiple colors, she is giving different options for calculating yardage of each color so it is more work than it is worth for a single color.
In my swatch, which had garter st borders in the MC only, I used 1/3 the CC but I think that is too low for an all-over stranded pattern.

Re: Need help calculating how much to spin
Thanks! Well the question is moot. I only have enough fiber to do the 500/625 split. Not enough to do the other. So I will spin what I have in the Tdf and then design the sweater around that and any additional dyed yarn I may have to spin

Was busy (thanks to all the special people who've helped me) downloading classes from Bluprint/Craftsy and as I was setting up another download, I got a big warning that the site has let their security certification expire.
I suppose I just need to go ahead and keep downloading?
They are complete and utter bums.

I just visited Ravelry.? What a surprising ;lay out, like a cold bucket of water!
It's reminiscent of a computer's Safe Mode operation, very stripped down and basic.? Definitely not inviting.
However,? it's really easy to see everything, since it's basically plain ol' black and white.
I can't believe that it will last.? Everyone will pine for the old, homey look.
Shoot, next they'll be selling out to NBC Universal!

His instantaneous response (and please pardon his language but this is a quote): It looks like ass. He expands that it looks like dated, poor forum design and that he has never seen anything (in a forum design) that hurts your eyes that much. Some folks have posted information about plug-ins that can modify the appearance so I’m going to have to figure that out for myself. It’s an effing disaster. Don’t suppose they’ll listen…? ? So I have to ask… what do you think about the new look for Ravelry? I have to say that I’m really surprised by the choice to completely rebrand away from colors and logo, but more than that, I’m shocked by how clunky the interface now looks.? It might function better, I’m not sure, but it’s causing me so much trouble with my eyes and headache that I’m not entirely certain I’ll ever find out. I did post in the feedback thread, but at the moment I’m not sure how well I’ll be able to keep up in the groups I moderate in, much less with other groups that I was active in or things I was following or doing on Ravelry. Pretty sad about this today.

Under the community tab. Why did they move it? Oh well, I’ll get used to that, and I installed the emulator to make it look like the old site a bit, but the white is still too white and that’s what gets to me most I think.

Thanks, Jaya! It’s installed and I’ll play with it. Took me a bit to find where my friend activity had gone. That’s my major interface with Ravelry these days — scrolling to look for eye candy. But at least now I can see the menu.?

Thanks for sharing Jaya – I’d seen that but haven’t explored it yet.? I mostly use Ravelry on my desktop and try to avoid using it on my phone anyway, so this would be a big help for me.
My phone still has one “old version” tab open (I did say “try”) and the differences in how things are delineated (what some people have called the grid lines) and the color choices and arrangement of the interface elements makes an amazing amount of difference
for me.??
Here's a suggestion to make it look similar to the old site - but not exactly. I found it made it better, but only on a desktop. Can't do it on a mobile device, I think

I wondered that too, Melisande - I thought maybe it was me being a fogey (ok, boomer).? Great - one more thing to figure out how to modify to recapture it's former functionality!

I missed that yesterday. Really dislike it and it’s not because it’s new, it’s because it looks like an early reader for very little kids. I’m not a fan of cute icons etc either. Perhaps they want to attract Very Young Knitters or those who like the very candy-pop styles? ? The bright white everywhere is unusable to me. No doubt a fix will come along. I’m sorry for them that everyone doesn’t love it (but they did ask people to tell them and they would listen). ? I once met someone? at a dinner who worked in the flavouring industry, who said her biggest challenge was that the marketing people always wanted to make something “new and improved” while the core customers liked it exactly as it was……..made sense. ? I think I’m the only one who likes it. I switched over to the desktop view because I tend to prefer it over the mobile view on every site, not just Ravelry. I’ve found it clean, easy enough to navigate. I had a litany of complaints about the old site too.? I’ve had to do a lot of work recently on UI/UX, and we now have a huge team at work called “the Creative Lab” staffed mostly by 20-somethings. The Ravelry re-design seems in keeping with a lot of the current look & feel that the Creative Lab types would be all over. I’m trying not to roll my eyes too hard, at them, and at me as I’m now considered to be really old by most of them.?
