The Reservation Sheet Contact
YRC Members: If you could put you name, email, and a contact phone number under the CONTACT section of the Reservation Sheet, this would help me out when reporting which boats are being repaired etc. Thanks, Craig

Someone with a sewing machine
YRC members: The Green slings need to be resewn. If anyone has a good sewing machine and can do a flat stitch back and forth a few times, please let me know. I'll have to cut the PVC to remount them, but if anyone could properly sew this for the club it would be very helpful. Thanks , Craig 215 410 2554

Reservations: Only two 'Live" or "Future" reservations in our system
YRC members: Please remember that in our Reservation system you can have only two "live" reservations at a time. If , for example, you row today, after your row you can sign up for two more slots. This keeps one person from taking over any particular boat and time slot. I think with two live reservations everybody will be able to share the boats and few conflicts of time will occur. Let me know if you are having trouble with gaining access or having problems. Craig 215 410 2554

Precautions for hurricane Henri
5
Ernie and I have moved the double from the outdoor rack to slings in the boathouse. I also ran some line around all the boats remaining on the outside rack to be sure they don't slide (get blown) off the horizontal rods that support them. I think there is *very little risk* of any damage to boats on the outdoor rack, but it was easy to take some defensive steps. Judging from weather and river forecasts, it looks as if you don't want to row tomorrow (wind, rain) or Monday (current). Ernie and I will restore everything to normal positions late Monday. Bob

Yankee Rowing Boathousekeeping Reminder: Please Shut Off and Drain the Hose
Yankee Rowers, A reminder: After using the boathouse hose to wash down boats, please remember to shut the water off via the spigot outside and to drain the hose so there isn't water in the hose. (Leaving the water on or not draining the hose when it's hot outside can result in the hose exploding from the increased pressure.) The water was left on all day/overnight several times the past week. Thanks very much. Best, Ernie

hello all!

Greetings ¨C Glad to be back in the house after 3 months West Los Angeles. I seem to have missed much of the summer deluge. If you missed it this am, I brought the plastic shower curtain home for wash and bleach ¨C will have it back later today. And I took a first pass at the mold and mildew in the shower. A testament to a really damp and humid summer. Better now. See you in the house and on the water. Jonathan

Head of the Charles ride
2
YRC Members. Is anyone going to the Head of the Charles this weekend. Our double is leaving on the Umass trailer Thursday afternoon, and I am trying to set up an appointment with Fluid Design to repair whatever damage occurred. If you are going out for Saturday, please let me know. Craig Schiff 215 410 2554...

Boathouse towels?
Several of the boathouse towels have been missing for a while. (Perhaps some one took them home to wash them?) If you have them, please drop them off when you get a chance. Thanks very much. Best, Ernie

Great news from Pap

August 23, I was given an anterior left hip replacement, which is supposed to have the quickest recovery of the various methods. New England Baptist has hip replacements down as smoothly as a Ford assembly line. I was on my way home 22 hours after the operation and walking around and climbing stairs without a cane in 6 weeks. Should be ready to row next spring. Life is grand. Cheers, John Pappenheimer

Master Boatman, Craig Schiff
7
Yankee Membership, I just wanted to give a shout out to our boatman, Craig Schiff. Days after the club Fluid 2X experienced a dislodged skeg and damaged skeg box (from a collision with a floating log), Craig arranged for transport of the shell on a UMASS trailer destined for the Head of the Charles regatta. Craig had contacted Fluid Design, which would also be at the regatta, and they indicated they may well be able to repair the skeg box and reset the skeg including laser alignment during the regatta weekend. Craig went to the race and arranged transfer of the shell to the Fluid tent, then back to the UMASS trailer the next day. The Fluid 2X is fully repaired and back home. All at no expense to Yankee. Good show I say! Eric

Seasonal Caution: Frost on the YRC Dock & Ramp
3
Yankee Rowers, It got quite chilly last night, and this morning there was frost on the dock and on the wooden ramp going down to the dock. It was quite slippery in places. So, as it gets colder in the coming days, please be extra careful using the ramp and dock. (The hardtop portion of the ramp doesn't get frost as readily. So, when there is frost on the ramp, it may be a bit safer to use the hardtop going down to the dock.) Best, Ernie

Hose is drained and coiled
2
The season is over for YRC and the hose has been coiled and drained. Christine , you might take a bucket with you and use the faucet outside. It might be working still. Mark and Jeff can you get together and put the double back above Moi in the boathouse? Be sure to take the cushions on the Winn tech rack with you. They go on first before the boat. C

END OF CLUB ROWING SEASON
18
As of Friday, Nov 5, the Yankee Rowing Club season for rowing club boats is closed. The water temperature is below 50F, the air temperature is almost always below 50F. Some nights are below freezing, which will freeze the water in the hose for washing boats. And although it will of course subside, the river is too high at the moment. The boathouse will be accessible during the winter, though at some point the water in the bathrooms will be turned off. Also, in the coming weeks, we will move some boats from the outdoor rack into the boathouse. We may not have room for all of them. If you have a boat on the rack and a way to store it elsewhere for the winter, it would be very helpful if you could move it soon. You may leave your boat on the rack for the winter if you wish. I want to warmly thank you all for, as a group, running the club smoothly. We have some conventions and a few rules, but the real strength of the club is everyone's cheerful cooperation. Thank you. Bob

a few details from the boathouse
5
Good morning, I was down at the BH the other day for a short ceremonial row in the Echo, and who should walk over but Bob Sproul! Nice visit and chat. Anyway, in case anyone has missed the info, there is a power operated garage door now, with a keypad, backlit, on the right Jamb. 1-2-3-4. The up-down button is on the left inside to the left of the log desk. I am returning the little flashlight today to the key box, with new batteries. There is no key in the key box ¨C one will be coming eventually I am told, once we are all settled in for the season. The key is an emergency way to unlock the door in the case of equipment or power failure, but it will not activate or control the opener, nor release the opener linkage. It is possible the door could be pried open in that case. The west side door is unlocked so that¡¯s the worst-case squiggle-in access. The overhead door unit does not have the electric eye interrupt, but it is resistance sensitive. Bob and I did a trial. But I would not leave a bow deck under it!! As far as I can tell there is no way to leave it partially open when we are on the water. The water is on in the bathrooms in case you get caught in bridge traffic and need a shower. ?. Jonathan
