Re: High/fast water danger

Hi Ernie,

I hope you are doing well, and having some great rowing!?
Would you please remove me from the YRC email list?

Thank you for all of your kindnesses along the way...and stay safe and healthy.

All good wishes,
Sue Hess

The heavy rain last night caused the river to go quite high/fast
quickly, above a safe level:

The flow speed is the number along the righthand side of the graph.
The upper limit for club boats is a flow of 20 kcfs. At 4:30 a.m. today,
it was about 43 kcfs.

Please wait for the flow to come back down before rowing.

Best,
Ernie

Re: High/fast water danger

Thanks for the update. I appreciate you watching out for us!
A bike ride it will be for today ?

Yankee Rowing: Boathouse Shower

Yankee Rowers,

Some of you may have noticed that there has been some water puddling near the toilet in the boathouse bathroom with the the shower in it. The marina management checked it out and they think that it's overflow from using the shower--either from the shower head, the shower basin, or the shower curtain.

Those of you who use the shower, please use one of the green rugs on the floor next to the shower (and after using the rug, please hang it up on one of the towel racks in the bathroom so it dries out), and please clean up any water on the bathroom floor.

Thanks very much.

Best,
Ernie

High/Fast Water Conditions

Yankee Rowers,

Just a follow-up to Craig's p.s. warning below regarding the river conditions:

Due to all of the rain we've had the past few days, the river is unusually high/fast and quite dangerous right now.

The club asks that members not row in club boats when the river flow speed on the Montague gauge is above 20 kcfs (20,000 cubic feet per second). The current river conditions are well above that now, around 43 kcfs:

The kcfs flow speed numbers are along the righthand side of the graph. (The stage/ft. numbers along the lefthand side are for the river water height.) The current flow speed/height measure is at the center of the graph. The blue dots/ line on the left half of the graph are the numbers for the past few days, and the maroon dots/line on the right half are a forecast for the next few days (based on the weather forecast).

When the river is back down to safer levels will depend on the weather, but it will likely take at least several days. Please check the river flow speed regularly and exercise caution when rowing.

Best,
Ernie

YRC Double Rowers:
To make it easier to take out
the double, we placed a pair of heavy-duty Green slings near the outdoor
rack, south of the Amherst boathouse. If you use those slings at the rack , it's easy to
take off the cover, fold it and hang it on the rack itself. Because
there are a lot of dogs running around on site, you'll want to keep
the cover off the ground.
On the way back up from the
water, you can stop at the YRC boathouse, wash and dry the boat, and then
take it to the Winn-Tech outside rack for covering. Because our cover has
straps with snap-ends all along the boat, this will keep it nicely
covered and protected.
Feel free to raise and lower the
oarlocks with the yellow bushings. Let me know if there are any
problems or questions.
Craig
PS I would use caution on the river this week. Check the river height
and current and avoid getting in serious trouble.

Hay time!!

开云体育

Hay, Yankee rowers!

It’s that time of year again…Sometime in the next week (or 2), I will be needing a couple of strong, athletic types, to help me get 200 bales of hay from Worthington into my barn in Westhampton (my truck/trailer). It’s hot, dirty work (and a REALLY good work out!) and depending on circumstances, may take 2-4 hours to do. Pay is $15/hour (and will be minimum of $50, regardless of time). I usually don’t know when it’ll take place, until I get a call from the hay guy the day before (sometimes, there’s more of a ‘heads up’.)

If you are interested in lending a hand (or if you know of someone who is), please respond directly to my email (don’t reply to the list, please!) - Ferreejennifer@...? or text me at 413-575-6493.
Individuals must have their own transportation to Westhampton, and preferably, over 18 years old.
Thank you all!
Jenn

Anyone borrow a "YRC" seat pad recently?

A seat pad was found in the river on Monday that I'm pretty sure was mine. It now has "YRC" written on it.
Email me off list if you find it (efronhofer@...).

Thanks!

Two singles for sale

It's probably disingenuous to be circulating information about boats for sale when we're
almost entirely out of rack space (the outdoor rack is essentially fully committed). ?But
these are nearby, and I know and trust Erik.

Hi,
I'm reaching out to the small club network in case someone is interested in a racing single.? I would say that these two boats are better for personal ownership rather than a club purchasing them.? It is just not as durable a boat as a Peinert and the foot stretchers are harder to adjust, but otherwise these are good boats despite their age.

The boats are in Milton, VT and can be test rowed.? I have some interest in both boats already, but no cash offer over the phone above asking price like the housing market has been. ;)
