Re: Mode switching problem or normal operation ?

I warmed up the computer and asked it. Says a 90c is 600hz. If that works for you I have one.

Turning the anti trip did not work, swapping out the vox unit board did not help so today I will spend my time tracing wires.

Hi Bob. The 90c is the cw filter for the 301. I’m not finding the spec on that straight away but I think it is 500hz. I have plenty of them and will trade with you. Confirm the band width.

When I switch from CW mode to USB, The t/r relay momentarily energizes and releases and the relay on the blanking unit energizes and de-energizes.

When I switch from AM to CW it seems like the t/r? relay energizes and does not release but I can receive ok. when I switch back to AM, the relay de-energizes.

Is this normal operation or what should I look for.? FT301D

?

Re: Mode switching problem or normal operation ?

I soaked the mode switch with Deoxit and that did not fix the problem. I turned the vox gain all the way down and that did not help? BUT !!! ,,,? I discovered what is causing it.

When the? CW key is UNplugged from the radio, the malfunction goes away.

Now, I have some where to start looking.

Thanks for the replies. Robert KH2BR

Hi Robert.
That is not normal, I would suggest you to look for what is wrong.
I have 2 FT301D and none of them are doing what you are describing.

Are you still looking for parts?

Re: Removing FT-301 VFO mechanism ?

If you go as far as to remove the VFO replace the bearings and grease. Chump change and standard bearing. Easy to come by. Just one more thing that it is not.

Re: From bad to worse

I used to sell them and probably still have one as well as the stabilizer. Elcon sells them. They're great. One of the first things I do with a 301 when it comes through is yank out the display and replace it with an Elcon. Programable. Very nice piece.

Oh, Great Fred thank you. I’m used to radio. You say something, the other person says something at least copy or over. But I guess the web is not like radio. My first time on a web site. Then everybody says things so short? No one wants to rag chew anymore. No activity on HF anymore. Thought maybe I would find my tribe here. I guess I talk to much. Thank you for letting me know stuff goes through. Guess folks just don’t talk anymore?

Are you talking to me? I’m new to computers and not doing real well. I do enjoy the 301’s and have about 20 of them with lots of parts. Please let me know if this went through.
Thank you

It's been at least 10 years, and I have a '301S that I've slowly been bringing back from the dead.... It now receives fine, but basically no power out. Perma-project status, ya' know?

As for 9 MHz filters, I ended up putting a Inrad filter for a '301 (CW/500 Hz) into a Hallicrafters SX-146 receiver (AFAIK, the only piece of Halli gear that used a 9 MHz IF.? There was an AM filter for it, but it was exceedingly rare, and the Inrad filter was on closeout.
