Andrew, the Arget board is connected to the radio board with a 10 pin connector or similar cable. Does this then connect to the serial port on the back of the radio?

Here's an interesting bit of information I just found in the Argent documentation: The T3-135 board is active only when the radio is placed in digital mode, indicated by a square wave icon on the display. When the radio is tuned to a memory channel that has the digital option set, the tracker will power up automatically. The tracker must be powered up before it can be configured Maybe this is your problem: the radio isn't in digital mode. Nothing from dmesg.
The only thing new is that plugging in the cable from the radio (into the USB 3.0 port on the inovato Quadra),
causes the hub to be re-recognized.
But only the hub, and the keyboard and mouse plugged into it, are recognized.
Nothing of the Argent Data Tracker device in the Alinco.

No /dev/ttyAMA0 device either? Some USB-to-serial chipsets use that device name instead. You might want to execute the "lsusb" command so see if anything is actually on the USB bus. It might be an unrecognized device vendor code, or the cable between the radio case jack and the TNC board might not be plugged in correctly (or at all). After applying the latest update, I am now getting an alert as
expected with an incoming message, however, it is not lasting. I
participate in the APRS Thursday thing and when I send my report, I
get several messages and the alert sounds. The following week, no
sounds. I have to restart YAAC to get the sounds to come again with
incoming messages. Sometime during the week, they stop working and by
the next Thursday I have to restart YAAC to get them back. My APRS
runs 24/7 here in the shack. I'm not seeing any other issues and no
indication when the sound feature stops working, until I look at the
message list and see a message came in and I got no alert. Ideas? --

ls -l /dev
then plug the USB into the radio and turn it on and run the same command
again. Look through the list to see what changed. The new entry will be
what you need use for your port. These days, with all kinds of weird USB
stuff out there, it could show up a number of different ways.

ls -l /dev/ttyUSB*

I know it's not YAAC at the moment.
I'm communicating with Argent Data to sort out why their device
might not be recognized.
Data mode is activated on the Alinco.
I've tried changing cables, connecting and disconnecting the
cable, powering the rig off and?
on while everything else was up, and restarting the inovato

I'm using ls -al /dev/ to see what's recognized.
Lots of tty entries but no ttyUSB0 or similar.
I'm communicating with Argent Data to see what I need to do ...

You still need to tell YAAC what
type of equipment you are connecting (a TNC, a GPS receiver,
etc.) first, i.e., the YAAC Port Type. Then YAAC will give you a
list of physical connection ports available (such as
/dev/ttyUSB0) that support that type of device. There are about
a dozen different types of devices and network connections you
can make in YAAC, and none of them self-identify what they are
to YAAC, so you need to tell YAAC what it is.

I'm used to seeing /dev/ttyUSB0, etc. in drop-down menus for
port selection.
If I add YAAC as a member of the group owning the 'serial
port device' /dev/ttyUSB0 - or whatever it turns out to be,
will /dev/ttyUSB0 be automatically added to the drop-down
ports menu?

What the YAAC
port types
specify is
what is on the
other end of

communications
cable, such as
a Serial_TNC
for a Terminal
Network
Controller
connected
through a
serial port.
Similarly,
Serial_GPS
specifies a
GPS receiver
connected
through a
serial port.
Note that the
Linux user
account
running YAAC
will have to
be a member of
the group
owning the
serial port
device (such
as
/dev/ttyUSB0),
or YAAC will
not have
permissions to
open the port.
Typically,
this will be
the "dialout"
group. Type
the "groups"
command at a
shell prompt
to see in
which groups
your account
is a member.
You can use
the "sudo
usermod"
command to
modify your
account's
supplemental
group
membership if
needed.
