Unbuilt Kits For Sale
I have two kits for sale: an Ensemble RXTX; and a SR63ng. I thought I would offer them here before trying eham or QRZ.com
Both kits are complete, and I haven't opened the parts bags. I'm selling them because I am having trouble soldering the surface mount parts. I no longer seem to have the coordination or eyesight that I once did, and the tiny SM IC's are especially frustrating! The RXTX board is dated 5/24/10, and the SR63ng is Rev 1.83 (Yoyodyne Consulting). I'm asking $70.00 for each kit, including US shipping. PayPal preferred. Please contact me directly: ko5v at arrl dot net Ignore any message you might get from my SPAM filter. Thanks. 73, Jim KO5V |
Re: Question
I will look when I get back from the jam session. If they are still there (and not duplicates of what I have) I will be interested.

I am waiting for the moderators to reply but I am sure I have seen the kind of ads you describe on here before. I don't think there was an earthquake or any blood letting. There was a more commercial ad on here at least once that did draw some fire. I have purchased two unopened softrock kits that were listed on one of the mail lists where I am a member. I think they were both listed right here but SoftRocks do get mentioned on some of the other lists. Enquiring minds want to know. 73, Bill KU8H On 08/06/2017 02:26 PM, ko5v@... wrote:

Thanks Mark, I read mailing lists as text e-mails, not on the web, but will remember this method to try, appreciated! Tuesday, August 1, 2017 Hi Chris, Click on the "More" box at the bottom of Leif's message and choose 73, Mark. --

Thank you for the detailed reply and the text and video links, I will retire early tonight and have a YouTube session :) Much appreciated. I hop your personal issues are resolved as soon as possible, your input on several forums is invaluable and always piques my interest, even if it sometimes goes a bit over my head ;) All the best. 2E0ILY Chris Wilson You replied on July 31, 2017: Hi Chris, I made several videos: Initial testing: Compare original and modified to a Perseus. Any difference in delay between clock edge in the LO and its effect on the output of the modulator is going to result in second harmonics of the LO appearing in the output. Only an exact 50:50 square-wave has no even harmonics.
CMOS by its nature requires an additional transistor to generate Q output from Q-bar, and adds an extra delay. I've not worked with TTL but ECL circuits produced both true and inverse outputs from the same transistor pair. 73 Phil GM3ZZA -- 73 Phil GM3ZZA |
KX2 schematics posted.
kx2 schematics on line.
KX3, KX2, mcHF are not a far cry from our little softrock. si570(kx3 and mcHF) or si5351(kx2) clock have temp correction. One thing I did notice. The flipflop and mux parts in the Elecraft radios are higher speed TTL components. Better balance? Potato Semiconductor sells 3.3V CMOS parts almost as fast as the high speed TTL. 73, -Bob ah7i/w4 |
Re: HDSDR Question
I solved my own problem. I had to click on ¡°Waterfall¡±¡. gee, I didn¡¯t even know that was there. I must have hit it by accident ¡

HDSDR Question
My HDSDR program has been working perfectly for years. Just now I noticed that the brightness and contrast adjustment bars are missing! The two below, reference and scale, are there and are functional. I tried exiting and restarting the program and got the same results. The adjustments for these two parameters are still present in the secondary window below the main display.
I am running the latest version. This is the first time I have ever seen this problem. I am running Windows 7/64 bit. I have used it for several years on this machine. Anyone have any thoughts on how to fix it? I fully expect this condition to go away when I shut off the computer tonight and then reboot in the morning. Dave, K4TO |

that syndrome is consistent with: * a dry joint (especially if a component wire is oxidised or otherwise unclean) * a hidden break in a connecting wire (most usually associated with a solid, rather than stranded, conductor) * a dirty contact in a switch (probably not relevant to this specific problem!) * a dirty contact in a plug & socket arrangement, or in an IDC connector * a poor wire-wrap joint * something loose (such as a stray solder ball near an SMT IC pin or other component) that's shorting the output line (the IC will shut down on a short circuit) * two wires too close to one another, perhaps with a single strand causing a short * a single strand from a coaxial cable shield causing problems Your photos don't show how the power gets to the board, or much detail of the assembled board itself. Good luck with the project, 73, Robin, G8DQX On 01/08/17 23:39, John VA7JBE via Groups.Io wrote:

Re: Softrock Lite II: VFO instead of crystal for weird IF frequency
Hi Bruce,
I'll keep that in mind, though I doubt that temperature is the issue. During testing the regulator was open to the air with plenty of ventilation. The behavior can be described like this: 1. 8v would be applied to the 5v regulator 2. The 5v regulator would typically not output any voltage 3. A bit of shaking of the wires would cause the regulator to put out 5v 4. Connections were checked, re-checked, re-soldered, and replaced without changing the behavior My suspicion is that the black/red twisted wires (see imgur link above) were adding some capacitance to the mix and messing with the regulator somehow. I'm pretty new to homebrewing so this is just my best guess. I'll investigate it further once I'm back from vacation in September. Cheers, John VA7JBE |
Re: Softrock Lite II: VFO instead of crystal for weird IF frequency
most 5v regulators have thermal shutdown if too hot. Result is 5V output cycling on & off. Maybe ventilation would help??

My power supply issues aside, it was actually quite easy to get the SMD components soldered to the board. Thanks to this kit, I no longer fear flat pack components. My prototype seemed to work well, but when I attempted to move it into the (admittedly small) case of the CS-40 I started to run into issues. The 5V regulator would turn on and off randomly, I suspect because of some stray capacitance from the wires. The display wouldn't turn on, there were transmit issues, and as my vacation approached I knew that it would be a while until I could get back into it. I just wanted to say thanks for the advice, and leave you with these pictures of the project at it's last stage: Cheers, John VA7JBE |

Re: Softrock Lite II: VFO instead of crystal for weird IF frequency
Hi folks,
I suppose it's time for a bit of an update to my project. The objective was to add an SDR receiver to an existing portable radio by tapping the IF with the softrock lite II and then doing the DSP with a Teensy 3.6. Unfortunately I've run into a few issues, mostly having to do with the power supply. |
Re: Search messages is broken
Hi,
Another way to search for your posts is to put in your last name (or maybe yahoo/groups.io user name), and search. I did this and found all my messages. If it's a common last name, you may have to pick one of yours out of the results, and then do the "All Posts by this Member" thing. If you do that, you will see that each user has an ID number and there is a search code in the box e.g. "posterid:141759" for myself. I tried it for the OP and did a search for "Louis" and it seemed to work fine. Searching by "poster:emailaddress" worked for me too. It might be handy if the groups.io tech people could give as a list of codes:arguments to use in searches, e.g. "poster" and "posterid" like we have already found. 73, Mark. |
