Mike, are all the Edirol FA66 cards firewire? On ebay they show at
$250 - that is a bit more expensive than the EMU 0202 at $100 shipped.
I'm looking for a decent USB soundcard to use with the SoftRock kits -
I would "like" for the price to be in the $100 range (less is
better)... That's why I have been looking at the EMU 0202, but the
SUB soundblaster also sounds good.
OR I just might switch from notebook to desktop and the choice is
easier.... I think anyway.
Hi Ken,
Yes, I should have been clearer: the FA66 is Firewire and expensive..
I don't have any other "good" recommendations. Shopping for a good
SDR sound card is really hit or miss; since the specs don't really
give the information needed. That is why I have so many sound systems
sitting around here :))
About the only thing one can have hope on is if the vendor specifies
the A/D converter used in the product. Even then they could have
filtering to kill all signals above the standard audio range.
The A/D that has proven to be near the best available is the AK5394A.
This is the one used on some of the "commercial SDR" radios and in
the HPSDR design. This A/D is used in my EMU1212M and makes it a top
notch card for SDR work. Wish someone could fine a external USB box
that used that A/D....
