Re: Sound card for a laptop

Thank you for the info Larry - I talked with the author of Rocky and
his suggestion was it was the difference in the way VISTA handles
sound vs XP and before was the reason Rocky would not see my
soundcard.

While it's not critical yet (I'm receive only), as I can move to the
TX side also, then I will need the second soundcard. As of this
time, Rocky would be my program of choice, but that would require
using 2 USB external soundcards.

I'm thinking I could buy one "good" soundcard (EMU-0202 or 1212) for
the radio, then a cheapie USB plug that sells for less than $10 on
ebay for the sound to drive the computer speakers.

Comments from anyone on this idea?

I sure am looking forward to the time when softrock has the soundchip
onboard - even if it's in the $10 to $15 range would be ok. As the
boards change, the chip could be moved from board to board.... OR
the chips will be getting cheaper.

Thanks to all for the info and GREAT radio.

Ken -

In the Rocky View/Settings/Audio dialogue box I use the EMU for
the I/Q Inputs and the laptop sound card for Audio Output device. I
believe the EMU has only one soundcard. I can't offer any suggestions
why Rocky doesn't see your laptop soundcard, but I think someone else
in this group may have some suggestions. Best luck.
