Where's my dunce cap #eagle
Hey gang, Many long time readers will know I have been around here for quite some time and have been using Eagle and Pcb-gcode to make my boards. For years I have muddled through and made my projects but have always had problems when using copper pours and getting a clearance between various traces etc. This week, I have a project that is a small board ~.5"x.75" and could not for the life of me get it to "etch". About 50% of the time, it refused to mill out the isolation and yet, make small lines in some fairly close places. Bottom line after several days of surfing, stumbled across a blog on the net that advised changing the isolation value of the pour. The process to do this is to <right click> on either the polygon or the pour itself if you have ratnested it and this will bring up a dialogue box. About 2/3 way down, there is an "Isolate" box. By default, this is 0. Change this to a suitable value for your system (I use 12mil). Click apply and you will instantly see the difference. Then click "OK" and your ready to run your ulp or whatever. Hope this helps somebody else. I still need that dunce cap as I should have figured this out years ago! Art Country Bubba

How does GCODE work with Eagle ? Is it via the gerber files and drill file ? Or does it use Eagle internal files ?

#Gcode 3.5.2.11 on #Eagle 7.5 stop working! #gcode #eagle
Dear Fellows I used for the last 2 years this software a few times, but always run fine, some months ago when I tried use this my bitdefender show me some warning messages and delete or "destroy" something in Gcode. Now on my designed boards on Eagle when I try to run pcb-gcode no "black" windows appears but in bin I found only bot.drill. file. Can some of you help me here? My very thanks in advance. Jose Santos

Can't get the mill layer anymore in eagle after update to v9.4.2 #gcode #viewer #pcbgcode #etch #eagle
Hi! I updated my Eagle to 9.4.2 version and now, I can't get the etching G-code for my signal traces. After generating the G-code I get on the etching preview only the pads but not with the traces. I didn't made any settings to pcb-gcode and it was working well in the past... Any idea what could cos this problem now? I use the 3.6.2.4 version of pcb-gcode generator. Thanks for any suggestion.

removing trace isolation swarf 14 #mill #development
I suppose swarf isn't the best word, but I'm curious about how you guys get rid of the chips which lodge in cuts. I've been chasing them out with a needle, buy it's tedious. I've got 90 psi air in the shop. Maybe I should try that. I've got my production system running very smoothly. Design In Eagle, generate Gcode in pcpcode, sometimes include autocad millwork with gcode generated in SheetCAM, set up work piece, set height on cutter and go. I make all of my boards from 2.5x4.0 workpieces. I made an aluminum fixture with a depression which fist these workpieces and has a lid which locates 4 holes one in each corner. I drill the holes and then screw the board down to an HDPE fixture bolted to the table on my 6040 router. The HDPE has 4 holes which take 6-32 nylon socket head caps screws. I face off the surface the board sits on every 4th or 5th board to maintain level. I adjust the bit height by rolling a piece of .250 drill rod back and forth until the bit just clears and then dropping it one click on the servo so it doesn't quite clear. I have vertical "home" set at Z=1.000 on the machine so I have to raise the spindle .750 before I start. I suppose I could lower the home to .250 and eliminate the "raise" but having it at one inch gives me enough time to catch some kinds of screw-ups. I've been delighted with this bit. I buy them from Precise Bits and they seem to last pretty well. EM3E8-0100-15V 0.0100in. (0.254mm) tip dia., 3-flute 15¡ã tapered stub trace-isolation bit, 0.020 in. DOC, 1.42 in. (36mm) OAL 2 $16.95 $33.90 The size of the bur on the edge of cuts seems to increase as they wear out, but only downside of this seems to be more dressing of the finished board. I use 400 grit paper and final clean up with 800 crocus cloth. I've been tinning the finished boards with MG Chemical 421. I'm a bit mystified why I get better tinning if i rough up the board with 400 grit before plating it. I wash board with acetone before tinning. After I've soldered everything (all through hole - no smds yet), I go over the board with a loupe and remove any shorts with braid and clean out any suspicious cuts with a needle. and they always work, at least the ones I haven't messed up the circuits on. If you read this and see anything stupid, let me know. Also I'm still like a better way to get rid of chips. regards, John ferguson delray beach

New Machine 7 #migration
Trying to setup PCBGCODE on a new machine (Windows 10). Got far enough to settings page but can't size the window to see/reach the 'accept' button. Closed it down and just tried 'run' on a board got message: Windows cannot find 'javaw.exe' Make sure you typed the name correctly and then try again. Closed that and get : Error calling ShellExecuteEx0 Any ideas?

Optimizer not working any more 5 #pcbgcode #eagle
I have been using optimizer "Optimizer for PCB Gcode. By Daniel Purvis and Jay Couture Version: 1.1 Releases 8/1/2008" But it doesn't work anymore. It brings up a dos box with the input and output paths and then just hangs. Any ideas? Can I download a new copy? I couldn't find a download source.

Can't open 'c:\storage.nv' permission denied 8 #pcbgcode
Just installed eagle 7.6 and PCBgcode on win10. The PCBgcode files are in c:\users\jim\documents\ulp\pcb-gcode-3_6_0_4 The directories are set as below. When I try to run PCBgcode I get the message as the subject above. If I proceed regardless it complains that it can't access c:\settings. Why is it looking in the root of the hard disk, please?

UnDoo problems 4 #eagle
Made a schematic and then tried the board. Gave autoroute a go and got a reasonable board. Problem is there are areas I have made errors on both the board and schematic. Trying to undo and go back I nowe have a error stating the changes on either will not update the other. e.g. changes on the schematic will not be shown on the board. Any ideas how to fix this or do I start from scratch? Thanks Vaughn

Laser etching 3 #pcbgcode
I have been using Eagle and PCB-Gcode for many years now with good results using a cutter to engrave the PCB traces. For the past couple of days I have been trying a slightly different way of using PCB-Gcode to make these PCB tracings that I found on another site (Hackaday or something like that) where a laser is used to cut thru a thin vinyl film to create a mask for etching. I have done this twice now and the second time , learning from the first, came out much better even though it wasn't much in traces and pads. I use a 2.3 watt solid state laser and the vinyl I bought from a sign making company. I use a Arduino UNO loaded with GRBL for the controller and bCNC to send the Gcode to the controller. I have had to modify the G-code generated to take advantage of the adaptive laser power depending on feedrate while it travels making the outlines just as if you were using a cutter. So I guess this is a wish list item that perhaps someday can be added to PCB-Gcode for use of a laser. One item in this case would be eliminate Z axis movement which isn't needed to using M4 rather than M3 to turn on the laser. For now I guess I will start thinking about using a G-code editor to make the changes automatically if I can find one that will let me do that sort of thing. Thanks for reading, Bruce

how do I get holes cut in board? 5 #mill #pcbgcode #eagle
I'm having great success with Eagle 9.2.2. I make small boards for through-hole components and, so far have been able to get everything on a single layer without jumpers but next project will require them. I do an outline on the Milling layer and the router4 cuts out the board. I have NOT been able to get a 1/4 inch hole recognized and cut however. It doesn't get picked up by PCB-GCODE and doesn't get cut. I use the Circle command in Draw to make the hole. I've put it on the milling layer and alternatively on the Dimensions layer, but no-joy. It possible that I don't have Eagle set up right? What would you look at if this was your problem? john

[pcbgcode:master] reported: Use small endmill to mill holes of various sizes 2 #github
[pcbgcode:master] New Comment on Issue #1 Use small endmill to mill holes of various sizes By MARIOBASZ: This is good. I think a good option is to choose one (or more than one) tool diameter to drill, and generate a helical descent of the target radius

[pcbgcode:master] new issue: Milling with 3 bits #github
[pcbgcode:master] New Issue Created by MARIOBASZ: #2 Milling with 3 bits I John, here I show you what I have done using 3 bits: 0.10 - 0.7 - 3.0 and here I have implemented: I have run pcb gcode 3 times, changing the dimension of the tool to 0.10, 0.8 (0.7 + 0.1) and 3.0. In BCNC I have enlarged the traces of 0.1 in +0.7. Intersect between traces of 0.7. Then I made a difference with the traces of 0.10. To the result perform pocket operation with 0.10 Between 0.7 and 3.0 the algorithm would have to be repeated (I have done it manually) Perform a pocket operation on the dimensions of the board for bit 3.0, subtract the traces of 3.0 so that they do not enter it

Intelligent milling with 4 bits 2 #development
Hi, I'm new here, I think it would be a good option. Can you implement it? I have little knowledge of programming, although I have advanced with a complement to implement it in BCNC, but it is not the best option. I hope you see it as viable or help you as much as you can. I saw you move to Github. Congratulations on your software!
