Getting started with Node Red
28
Hi All, For anyone getting started with Node Red, first check out the WiKi to get your Pi loaded with an OS and Node Red. Next, check out these videos that Andy, VA3CW found on YouTube. The videos will help you to start using Node Red. https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=opto22+node+red In the files section in this group there are plenty of flows to get you started. If you use a Flex 6000 series radio you can load my VITA49 and FlexRadio flows. I am modifying the FlexRadio flow shortly to automatically detect the model number of your radio and set the meter subscriptions accordingly. Please look for a read.me file in each file folder which describes any node dependencies and any other info required for those flows. A note to people who have uploaded flows - Create a folder with your callsign then upload your flows to that folder. Create a read.me file with Notepad or other text editor listing any extra nodes that you have installed for your flows. This will help new users to get up and running. I can assist in moving previously uploaded flows from the main file folder to your callsign folder. If there is anything else you can think of to help please let me know. 73 Dave wo2x

welcome to the machine!

I'm pleased to meet you OMs! My next node red project is a "click for power" flow to allow an Alpha 87a to be tuned and ready for a Flex 6600. Basically a hands-off user interface - click and when you get a green indicator you're QRO, along with the correct antenna and BPFs. To learn about managing serial ports (the Alpha 87 uses one) I started messing with an old Oregon Scientific weather station. In a matter of a couple of hours I had XML data and a dashboard going. 73 Andy VA3CW (ex-VE3EKF) Toronto, ON - FN03fp

Overview
4
Hi all (10 of you! :) I want to make sure that everyone knows that this forum is not for just FlexRadio projects. It just happens that it started with Flex 6000 series radios. If you are working with other radios and amateur hardware, you are welcome to be part of this group as well. I would like all of you 'core' members to help reinforce that as we get new members to join. 73 Mike va3mw

Node Red for hams - How to guide
2
Hi All, Welcome to the Node Red for ham radio group! Should be a lot of fun. I got involved with Node Red when I was hospitalized in September last year. Mike VA3MW and Andreas N6NU showed me some stuff they were playing with and I decided it would be fun to try and automate some things in the shack to make left easier when running remote. So I started with a few flows from Mike and Andreas and started customizing them for my Flex 6700. I then added control and monitoring for the KPA1500 and, Rotor control via PSTRotator UDP server, outlet control using a Digital Loggers Web Switch Pro and basic telemetry out of the radio. I have since helped others along the way with things like SteppIR interface (Alan and Andreas get most of the credit), UDP broadcast for Green Heron Everywhere and HF Auto, and some other stuff. I decided to make an image of my Node Red Pi today and I killed another Samsung microSD card. Third Samsung card that got hot and cracked. I use generic cards from Micro Center and never an issue so now building a new Pi from scratch. I am documenting the steps with hopes of putting together a how-to guide for people who need some hand holding. The idea is to get more people involved with various hardware and collaborate to share our flows. I have some tweaking to do on my Flex Radio flow but by tomorrow I will upload my flows to this Groups.io site. I will post instructions on how to access the files as well as upload your flows for others to share. I should have a very rough copy of the how-to by tomorrow for those that want to jump in and help edit it or want to get started with Node Red. Again, thanks for joining. I hope we can work together and have fun doing it! Dave wo2x

RPi connections
3
For those using RPi - what are you using to break out the GPIO header? For our club station the RPi is contained in a Pi4 specific plastic chassis (really cheapo box) but I'm pretty sure that's not a good long term solution. Where possible I'd like to avoid making it into an octopus. Thoughts and pics graciously welcomed! 73 Andy VA3CW

group file storage
Hi All Just an FYI, we do have some storage space and there should be lots for flows. There is even GitHub integration that we should look into. Pictures are the ones that might take up a bunch of space, but we will keep an eye on it. Dave wo2x and Andy va3cw are moderators as well and I know they will help. 73, Mike va3mw

WX7Y Station Flows
Thanks to Alan and Dave for their help! This is Just a start on my station's NodeRed and looks kind of caveman compared to the others on here, I have very little time to work on this project right now but making some headway. I have 3 DLI WEB switch's (These flows work with older units and Pro switch's) a Flex 6600M, and Flex 6700 ( Problem with VITA49 running 2 radios, toggles back and forth really fast) HF Auto (need to add PTT drops when Radio tunes) FLEX PGXL Amp (Looking for a Flow if one exists) WN2 Power Switch (working on Flow) 73's and thanks for the help Bret WX7Y

Two radios on the same network
8
I have seen issues with certain devices using two flex radio's on the same network because both radios are stuck using port 4992, This causes the Flow's using UDP port 4992 to toggle between the two radio's frequency and band's This happens on Green Heron, HF-Auto and the VITA49 flows and I'm sure others, I being very much a NEW_BEE to Node-Red have dabbled with trying to change these FLows to work with the CAT TCP port numbers instead that we can set how we want and not stuck on 4992 so maybe some of you guys who are seasoned Node-RED code writers can figure how to change these so we CAN use these flows with two radio's on the same network. Thanks guys and have a great day Bret WX7Y

W2 configuration
3
I changed the subject This worked 3 days ago before I pulled out the W2 and replaced it with the LP100A. oh, wait... maybe not as this looks like the LP100A settings now. You might have to revert to Dave's notes. 73 and Mike On Sun, Jul 12, 2020 at 10:23 AM Alan Blind <a.alan.blind@...> wrote: Dave and the group Good thought about using the full name of the FTDI cable. Here is a screenshot with the Rasberry Pi DEV file on the left, and the Node-Red Serial In node on the right. Node-Red found the DEV file, so that seemed like good news. However, the W2 Wattmeter does not respond to Node-Red. I am using the "official" Elecraft serial to USB FTDI cable. Node-Red appears to see and like the cable. Dave and Mike, you each use the W2. Could you send me screenshots of your serial in/out "advance" configurations, for the W2? I have had success with serial to IP converters for remoting the ports. I am now trying to co-locate the Raspberry Pi and use cables for the serial connection. However, when I use a Serial to USB FTDI cable, my Node-Red sees the cable connected to the USB port, Node-Red says it is connected to the port, but will not pass data thru? All of the basic serial settings are per the device's instructions. My current instance is with the W2 Wattmeter. I am using the Elecraft supplied serial to USB FTDI cable plugged into the Raspberry Pi USB2 port. Are you using FTDI Serial to USB cables? I know you have previously used the Serial to IP convertors which I too have used successfuly. Did you find any other settings or drivers necessary to make the cable work on a Raspberry Pi? I'm adding more display info. I took out the Gate since the LP100A handles clearing the display nicely. I'm reading every 100ms to try to catch a nice Peak value, but I am checking with Telepost to see if I actually need to do that or if the LP100A actually holds peak from the last x-milliseconds. parsing characters after specific text in a string - ideas?
8
Hi All, hoping the collective brainpower of the group may have a solution. Sometimes I get stuck on the simple things. I need to work on displaying TX power setting for current band and looking for a way to parse specific characters after a particular part of a string. Let¡¯s say the string coming in is afgfadaefdvdvsdsscdwqout23fdhhgfgsjdgfsdfiop I want to parse the 23 after out. So need to look at the string for out then parse the next two characters after out. Any ideas? Sometimes I get stuck on the easiest things. This will help with the ability to reliably parse all meter data out of the Flex radio. 73 Dave wo2x

Reminder about message archive
Good morning all and welcome to our new members. A reminder that your first post is moderated. We have three moderators in the group so message approval is usually pretty quick. Second, archives of previously sent messages can be found at the Node Red for ham radio home page. /g/nodered-hamradio In there I have posted a very rough ¡°How to¡± to help get people up and running. It is based on notes I took when I built a Node Red Pi from scratch. /g/nodered-hamradio/message/104 Anyway, enjoy and colaborate! Dave wo2x

Node Red Lurker
2
Just putting out a post to prove I'm not a bot! I have a Flex 6700 remote with a Pi that I use to tunnel ports back to my local station control and I've known about Node Red for a while, but haven't installed it yet due to many factors. The current setup in my station "just works". Now that I'm seeing this dedicated group take off, I might go ahead and try and do some node red programming since there is some dedicated help. Thanks to WA9WUD for the node red json dump to github. I'm sure that's going to be the first place I go after installing the base program. Kyle AA0Z

W2 wattmeter support
45
Hi all, I have finished the display portion of the W2 wattmeter flow. What control functionality would you like to see? Forward power meter in auto range or manually set? (I personally like auto range). Sensor auto scan or manually selectable? Or a choice between the two? What other controls? Once I get some feedback I will be able to have a flow publicly available to test. 73 Dave wo2x
