开云体育I use a Pi 4 with 4 GB ram. Make sure to get a good 5 volt 2.5 amp supply. It uses USB-C for power connector. If you plan to use a relay hat board instead of external relay module make sure the case you choose will fit the hat board, or you can mount the Pi without a case, depends on your needs.?For interfacing equipment with serial ports you can use USB to serial cables. Use cables with genuine FTDI chipset. Prolific chip cables are unreliable (PL2303). Two good sources for FTDI chipset cables in U.S. are Mouser and DigiKey. You might pay a little more but they are genuine FTDI cables. ?There are also USB to multi serial port and USB to relay modules available.? Determine list of equipment you want to connect then you can determine your needs. Feel free to post back a list of equipment and the group can Make suggestions on what works for them.? 73 Dave wo2x Sent from my waxed string and tin cans.? Thanks Dave.. I dont exactly know yet what extras i need or want.. I do have a flex and would like to automate some functions in the shack.. Figured I'd?start with a PI and install the software and start to understand what it can do. I'm going to order up a PI4 with 4 gb memory and get the OS and software installed. I liked the dashboard you showed in your presentation yesterday. This will be a learning process. |
开云体育Ok Ken,We’re here to help. I am going to do a straightforward video to load the VITA49 and FlexRadio flows. This will pick up at the point after Node Red is installed. The WiKi will get you to that point.? I hope to have that video done and uploaded to my YouTube channel tomorrow afternoon.? 73 Dave wo2x Sent from my waxed string and tin cans.? Hi Dave. I will add my thanks for your work with presenting Node-red to the QSO Today expo.
On the subject of cases above, I decided to pickup a relay hat. Do you (or anyone else reading this) have any suggestions for specific cases for a PI 4 with a relay hat. One never knows from the dimensions if it will fit so I was hoping to gain from another's experience. I prefer to have a case rather than leave the PI loose on my bench. I picked up the?KEYESTUDIO 5V DCAC 4-Channel Relay Shield Module Expansion Board for Raspberry Pi 4/A+/B+/Pi 2 Model B/Pi 3 Model B hat for the PI4. Thanks, Tom NY4I |

Hi Tom,
I am new here but saw your request about cases and couldn't resist throwing in my two cents. I have been through a bunch of cases from Amazon and found this one is a bit higher than most. Not sure if it will hold a relay hat or not but but aside from the HiFiBerry case Dave mentioned it is one of the biggest I have found on Amazon and isn't that expensive. Leaving out the fan will give even more space at the expense of more heat as well. Good luck! Rick WB4CPJ |
开云体育Thanks. That is a tall case. You also hit upon my dilemma. They all look big enough but until one mounts the relay board on top and checks the inside dimensions, it is hard to know.I plan to do exactly that. I will mount the board, then take some exact measurements. If I can find a case with well documented interior measurements, I will try it. I was hoping someone had already put their relay hat on a Pi in a case and I could benefit from their experience.? I guess I am it. :) I will report what I find. Regards, Tom NY4I

Tom,
I just measured the internal clearance of that case. From the top of the USB jack on the RasPi board to the bottom of the top cover, without the fan, I measure 3/4". From the top of the GPIO pins to the bottom of the top cover (no fan) I measure 1.0". The fan is 13/32" thick and mounts flush to the inside of the top cover and is easily removed, leaving a smooth and level surface on the inside of the top cover (i.e. no mounting stubs or tabs). Hope this helps. Regards, Rick WB4CPJ |
开云体育Thanks. I ordered one already. If it doesn’t fit, it will fit my POE hat. I can always use another case for the ever multiplying Pi collection ( 12 and counting).?Tom NY4I? 开云体育Dave,Same here. I bought the HAT simply to experiment. Sometimes I do not need to switch like I do with my DLI web power switch (I have 3 of those too for various applications like my AV equipment, LAN rack and remote station). Alexa even controls the DLI web power switch—but I digress. I thought a Node-RED controlled 12V would be cool to play with as well. I know I can switch 10A at line voltage with that HAT but I want to stick to 12V and 5V. Tom NY4I

开云体育I had bought mine tohrough their direct store on Amazon about 2 years ago. Probably like almost every company it is a supply chain issue. ? They also sell AC Relays for $8.95 each which I have two. I’ve started looking for a Pi4B kit (8Gb preferably for the headroom) to get started in learning and using Code Red in my setup, but have become overwhelmed with the many choices. I’ve read that canakits or the Pi store are good places to look, but I’m finding that little if any are in stock and preorders are months out. So looking for advice what and where to buy.
My setup is pretty simple today. I mostly operate my station at home but have set it up to remote into it when traveling. My main radio is a K4D coupled with a KPA1500, but I also have a 6500/PGXL setup I started to experiment with (a 7610 is also there but it’s primarily a backup radio now). I use Win4K4Suite with the K4 and will likely use Elecraft’s remote solution once it’s released. Main antenna is a Steppir 18E which I’ve interfaced with the SDA2000 using ?PSTRotatorAZ (which is also tied into my rotator). Peripherals include an antenna switch and rotor, logging/interfacing software is DXLabs. I use AnyDesk to remote into my PC (Win10). My IT/programming “skills” are limited, so easy is always appreciated. ?Thanks in advance! ?

Lou, if you do _not_ have RPi yet, but you have PC or a Mac with enough umps, consider running NR in a virtual machine - Paralells, VMware Fusion, Docker. I am running on my iMacPro a virtual machine Win10 for CC client and viewport, and a Ubuntu VM for Node Red. This allows me to nuke NR with no impact on host system.

Welcome aboard! There are flows for the Flex radio & amp as well as K4D and KPA1500. I’d suggest the rotor flow designed to interface to PSTRotator since you use it already. I have to upload the K4D flow, which is pretty basic but will give people direction to be able to expand it further and customize to their needs. As far as Node Ted server, a Pi 3b or newer should be fine if you have a 3b laying around. Had I be able to foresee the Pi shortage, I would have purchased a couple of hundred when they were reasonably priced. I just got home from the hospital a little while ago and going to take a nap (sucks getting up at 4a.m.). I’ll upload the K4D flow later and send a message to the group. If someone wants to “run” with it to improve the K4D flow, I will be willing to spend some time going over everything to help you get up to speed to edit it and add functionality. Off to nap time. 73 Dave wo2x Sent from my waxed string and tin cans. On Oct 4, 2022, at 11:43 AM, Zbigniew Tyrlik - KU1T <jowoc1@...> wrote: |
