Pi-zero

Just a FWIW...
?I have node Node-Red installed and running on a PI-Zero-W.? I am using it as an internal controlled in a piece of station equipment which requires using the several GPIO ports. Although it serves my purpose, it does seem a bit slower ( less responsive ).

? I was not able to run FRStackWebApi on it as dotnet fails with a Segmentation Fault.? I believe that I have the correct dotnet installed.? uname -m reports armv6l hardware archtecture.?

? I don't need FRStactWebApi for this application so I'm ok as is.

Just a FWIW.

Hi Al,

I'm looking to do something similar.? I want to use a Pi Zero W to control a relay board using the GPIO ports.? Pretty simple stuff, just on/off relays which I've already coded in Node-Red and have running on a Pi 4 and can access remotely via a VPN.? But the Pi 4 seems way over kill, so I want to free it up and use a cheaper, smaller Pi.

My question: were you able to load the Pi OS and Node-Red as indicated in the Wiki for this group, and get it to work on the Pi Zero W? If so, did you use a 32 bit OS or 64 bit OS? If not, what approach did you use to load the OS and Node-Red?? The Wikis both say a Pi 3 or 4 is required but I'm wondering if it will work with the Zero W as well.

Thanks.

I helped another ham load Node-Red on a pi-zero and we used?MQTT to?have it operate some GPIO based relays.? It worked well for dedicated tasks, like relays.

We tried to load the dashboard nodes and build a simple dashboard.? In this use, the pi-zero struggled.

Thanks Alan.

I'll give it a try and see how it works.? I only need two buttons and a little delay won't be a big deal.??

I've never used MQTT so if I struggle I may be back for some more help!

I followed the Wiki to load the 32 bit is and node-red on a Pi zero w with headers. Relay 2 on the keystudio would not fire. Move the SD card to a pi 3 or pi 4 and it was all good.

Must be FM.

Guys, ?pi zero only has one core and 512mb of memory. ? It will run basic node red, but that is about it. ? Maybe the zero 2 w with 4 cores will do better.

node-js is interpreted, not compiled like C. ??

Thanks All, for the comments and thoughts.

I'll give it a try and see what happens.? I really wanted to try a Zero 2 W but availability is pretty scarce right now, unless you want to pay the scalper or 'kit' prices.
