Problem With NanoVNA -App
Ken Moorman
I¡¯m unable to get plots from the NanoVNA App by OneOfEleven, which looks like a great piece of software. My pc is connected to my NanoVNA H4 through the USB cable and I have used the app successfully to load three different firmware programs into the H4, all which seem to work just fine when using the H4 as a stand-alone device or with NanoVNA-saver. But all I can get from the NanoVNA-App is a blank graph of what-ever function I choose to see with no data at all received. I feel like my problem is due to ¡°cockpit error¡± but I cannot determine what I am doing wrong. I don¡¯t think a user guide is available or I would have figured out what I am doing wrong already. Can someone give me a hand in getting this program to work correctly for me? Thanks.

The NanoVNA-App by One-of-Eleven uses a new protocol to receive sweep data from the NanoVNA-H/H4. It does not work with edy555 or Hugen firmware. It only works with DiSlord firmware installed on these devices.
I have not installed the DiSlord firmware and don't know If DiSlord firmware will work with the old protocol programs like NanoVNA Saver, NanoVNA Sharp and NanoVNA. Hopefully someone will post an answer. Roger |

Thanks Roger. I believe that is my problem as I have been trying to use it with an H4 which has the Hugen firmware installed. I will load Dislord firmware and try again. I can tell you that NanoVNA-Saver will not work with the Dislord firmware in my H4. I¡¯m glad it is easy to flash different firmware using the NanoVNA-App as I want to use both programs.

The DiSlord firmware works fine with V0.3.8 and 7 of Saver for me. I
haven¡¯t tried with any of the other ones. On Mon, Dec 21, 2020 at 6:31 PM Roger Need via groups.io <sailtamarack= [email protected]> wrote: The NanoVNA-App by One-of-Eleven uses a new protocol to receive sweep data73, Tripp Sanders K5TRP |

Thanks for the tip. I was using v1.8.39 so I will give v1.8.45 a try with NanoVNA-Saver. Too many choices! Ken, NU4I Sent from my iPod On Dec 21, 2020, at 20:06, Ted Chesley <tedchesley@...> wrote: |
Hi everybody,
If you want to use a program under WindowsXP ... win7 ... or Windows10 called NanoNVA-App, you must also update the firmware of your device for completeness. The currently released firmware is version v1.0.45 in the Files folder in the group. This is because the firmware and the software were developed at the same time to ensure smooth communication between the device and the computer. To the best of my knowledge, NanoVNA-Saver v0.3.8 can be used with this firmware. The development is a so-called occurred in a beta group. The team got the most out of the structures. To do this, you even need to know that the NanoVNA-App can communicate with NanoVNA, -H, -H4, (nanoVNA-V4 aka SAA2) and TinySA. Although it is advisable to use a modified version of the latter. The program created by OneOfEleven can also communicate with the VNAs listed above via Bluetooth or WiFi. To do this, you need to connect the HC-bluetooth or the DT-06 type WiFi module. This is the purpose of line 2 in the upper left corner of the program, which indicates the connection to it. To the best of my knowledge, the operating instructions for the program have not been prepared yet, the firmware and software development was done and tested by the group members in their free time. In short, that's it. Have a nice holiday and have a good time using the device and the program. 73, Gyula HA3HZ -- *** If you are not part of the solution, then you are the problem. ( ) *** |
I have NanoVNA-App-1.1.206 up and running on Windows 10 20H2 with a NanoVNA-H and DiSlord Firmware v1.0.39.
Everything seems to work and I have also uploaded firmware. However, the data that is produced differs from what I see on the NanoVNA screen and also on NanoVNA Saver. As one example, the lowest VSWR on my 440 MHz ground plane antenna shows as 448 MHz on the NanoVNA-H and NanoVNA Saver. NanoVNA-App shows the lowest VSWR around 452 MHz. Similar differences were seen with a 17 meter antenna. NanoVNA Saver was not run until after the problem was noticed and NanoVNA-App was shut down first. I've tried many things without success. The frequency settings match between the NanoVNA and NanoVNA-App. I have turned the NanoVNA on and off several times and also let the system create a new NanoVNA-App.ini file. Thanks for any help. You have to make sure you have selected the right source for the calibration data. There is a dropdown box to select None VNA or APP. Pick VNA if you want to use the calibrated NanoVNA. Use APP if you want to calibrate in the program. Roger |
