Re: NanoVNA-H v3.4 High S21 noise above threshold frequency after updating to 1.2.14 FW by hugen79

Try the most recent dislord full release v1.2.20. I'm not sure if it will
solve your problem, but we can hope. Make sure to choose the correct file
for your device (H or H4). (Some will say there are more recent releases -
there are more recent versions, but this one is the last one that dislord
'released', and is stable with lots of new features)

Re: NanoVNA-H v3.4 High S21 noise above threshold frequency after updating to 1.2.14 FW by hugen79

Thank you for your quick reply! I do have a V3.4 but I can give his most recent release a try or would you recommend an earlier version?

Re: NanoVNA-H v3.4 High S21 noise above threshold frequency after updating to 1.2.14 FW by hugen79

Also check in Config -> Expert Settings that mode is set correctly for
your device, SI or MS
Sometimes it seems after a new firmware update that setting needs corrected.

NanoVNA-H v3.4 High S21 noise above threshold frequency after updating to 1.2.14 FW by hugen79

Hi Everyone. Just recently updated my NanoVNA-H 3.4 to the newest 1.2.14 SI FW by hugen79. Never had any issues with the unit since purchased in 2019ish until I updated FW so I'm assuming I have a configuration setting or something wrong. Attached is a photo of it's S21 behavior, it has a low noise floor up to it's set threshold frequency (it defaulted to 290mhz but the high noise will shift down if I reduce this value) This photo is taken after a full calibration and doesn't change if I terminate both ports into 50ohms either. Anyone have any ideas on why it's doing this?

Thank you,
Garret

NANO VNA Part II by k3eui

What can you learn about an Antenna from a Nano VNA graph?
Reflection Coefficient?
Return Loss (dB)?
SWR - obviously
PHASE?
Smith Chart summary?

This is a Part II Nano VNA talk I gave to a British ham radio club (about one hour).
This Part II is the ¡°under the hood stuff¡± ( more math ) leading into Smith Charts and a definition of RESONANCE and the example of GRAMPY pushing GRANDKID on a swing - sort of like an end-fed dipole. How does grampy know ¡°when to push¡±? Grampy is the feed line.

I don¡¯t know why the link is so long.

The good stuff is at the end - and yes, there is a QUIZ.

Re: updated and calibrated nanovna h4 yields incorrect swr readings

AliExpress quality may be compromised and I won't go that far. While
working at Phillips Lab on KAFB in Albuquerque, we were even forbidden to
use Pasternack connectors and adaptors. At times, it's worth sourcing only
the expensive connectors and adaptors - there, at taxpayer's expense. But
when it is tight, you know it! It's tight and doesn't "wiggle". Not so
with cheap connectors and adaptors. One must "wiggle" and re-tighten the
backshells using the cheapies multiple times to assure they are tight.

No, 12k is IF used in measure. So not possible measure on this frequency or it harmonics

PS in H4 possible change IF in config-expert settings menu

Re: updated and calibrated nanovna h4 yields incorrect swr readings

Just buy more than 1 set of adapters - there's plenty of room in the divider bins. 8-)

I've gotten too old and grumpy to use the coffee-can approach - when I dump it out I have to root around to find what I need, and since most of the adapters are roughly barrel-shaped, they try to run away. The only place I do the bin-o-stuff is my "miscellaneous hardware" bin where assorted oddball nuts & bolts go.
