Re: NanoVNA-Saver 0.1.3 MAC

How exactly do I change the PyQT restriction? I'm computer literate, but not familiar with Python at all.
The original install instructions I found didn't have that step, so I'm wondering if that isn't my problem. Here's the error:

so then, try calibrating from the saver program... and if it crashes, try first to calibrate from the device itself? :)

#crash NanoVNASaver crashes on startup #crash

Hello, I was using NanoVNASaver yesterday afternoon, successfully without any problems. I went to have dinner, using my laptop to document my work in PowerPoint. I came back home in the evening, fired up NanoVNASaver and the attached PNG file shows how NanoVNASaver crashed. I've tried:
1. rebooting my computer
2. reinstalling the software (multiple times, including both x86 and x64 versions
3. running Glary Utilities to "clean" up my computer (see attached JPG)

Below is some configuration information that may be of help to diagnose the problem. Any help is welcome; thank you.

NanoVNASaver 0.4.0 crashes on start

Hi All, This afternoon I was succesfully using my NanoVNA H4 with NanoVNA Saver -- no problems. After working over dinner in PowerPoint on some documentation I came back home, tried to fire up NanaVNA Saver -- and it immediately crashed. Please see attached PNG file to see details. Any constructive advice is welcome! Thank you, Curt

EMPIRICAL DATA
a) I've run NanoVNA Saver as Admin and non-Admin; same crash
b) Crash occurs with NanoVNA disconnected and connected
c) I can see the NanoVNA in the Device Manager on COM port 8

Replacement of damaged NanoVNA circuit board #hardware

I accidently transmitted 12w into my connected nanovna and caused some damage to the software or components, not sure but it cannot read SWR any longer. It still uploads firmware etc but does not function as it did in the past.
Is it possible to replace the entire main board with a new board?
where can I get that replacement pls

Re: TDR or Cable Length on 75¦¸ cable

I suspected as much. Best to have a known length of the cable to be measured. Then one can get the actual VF. Thanks, Stan.

Bingo!
I used the wrong .dfu.
Downloaded -H4 and I am back in business.
I owe you big time.
Thanks for all your help.

Fred,

Are you sure you are using the correct DFU file for the -H4? If you use the -H you will get a black screen.

You need to use the "Upgrade" button NOT "Upload". This is a common error. Check the "Verify after download" box and it will check that the firmware was written to flash correctly.

Roger

Re: NanoVNA-H4 Black Screen

Hello Igor:
Thank you for the comprehensive video.
I performed the task as you showed, with the latest dfu file.
It appeared to function as your video showed.
However, I am still left with a black screen after disconnecting and reapplying power.

Re: SV4401A ?

IMO, this would be stupidly cheap if it wasn't for the fact that the other nanoVNAs are so ridiculously cheap. Check the price of any way less capable graphical antenna analyzer for comparison. Even the archaic analog MFJ-259 is $350. Of course this is competing with those other amazingly capable ridiculous cheap nanoVNAs, so the question becomes are the features/benefits worth it to you.

What I find disappointing is that it does not come with an N connector calibration kit. Inside it uses a SMA to N connector adapter and then an N Connector to SMA adapter and SMA cal loads are used. This is not great because the cal is now done through two adapters.
Roger,

Many thanks for your comments, links, and photos. I completely agree about the
calibration kit, although I'm more likely to be using it with SMA devices most
of the time. The dynamic range limitations aren't surprising, and even on a
professional VNA you are likely to need reduced bandwidth, slow scans, and
averaging to optimise the dynamic range.

Closed-source firmware and dedicated software is disappointing, but not a deal
killer for me, providing that bugs are fixed. Noted the ML&S reported
problems, but they are being addressed.

I appreciate your input.

Cheers,
David

Unless of course you require testing capabilities in the 4.4 GHz ranges. The so called classic models
like the Nano VNA H4 operate up to about 1.5 GHz and are less than half the price. Other than that
I am not familiar with that particular device.
Chris,

Thanks for your comments. I agree about the price, although these days prices are always higher than expected! It was the large screen which attracted me, and I don't know of any other 7-inch models, and seeing the information Roger provided it does look well built

Cheers,
David.

- Where are the firmware updates to be found?

I have one on order, but I can return it if it's not good.

I see nothing in the group messages or the Wiki.
This is the latest product from SYSJOINT (one of the developers of the NanoVNA-F). There is a Chinese version and an English version and they are not compatible according to the manufacturer.

The Web sites describing the product are:
1.
2.

Specifications:

User manual:

Firmware is not open source and one vendor. ML&S UK, reports they have found some bugs which manufacturer is working on. >>

It connects to the PC with a SYSJOINT Version of NanoVNA Saver. Drivers for WIN 10 are not required. Win7 and WIN8 drivers can be downloaded from SYSJOINT.

Looks like it is well built but S11 and S21 dynamic range is something to take a look at.

others were to think of that...

"or" is left in the question :)

How do you update or does your nanovna-H4 look like the attached video?
