Re: Calibration artifact at OPEN #calibration

Paul,
This is a perfect example of why we have been trying to get our members to make better use of the Wiki and File pages. You would have saved yourself a lot of time and effort if you had read the Wiki page first:
/g/nanovna-users/wiki/RF-Calibration%2C-considerations%2C-notes

Brief summary of calibration steps:
1) Open CAL menu and press RESET
2) Open CALIBRATE menu
3) Connect SMA open to CH0 wait 2-3 seconds and press OPEN
4) Connect SMA Short to CH0 wait 2-3 seconds and press SHORT
5) Connect SMA Load to CH0 wait 2-3 seconds and press LOAD
6) Connect SMA Load to CH1, connect second Load to CH0, wait 2-3 seconds and press ISOLN
note: if you don't have second Load, just leave CH0 open.
7) Connect cable from CH0 to CH1 and press THRU
8) Press DONE
If you make a mistake, start again with RESET!
The CORRECTION button should be REVERSE VIDEO
Verify that CH0 REFLECT is selected in DISPLAY -> CHANNEL submenu
First set STIMULUS to frequencies useful to YOU

A lot of good information is on both pages and has been categorized as best as available time allows. This board is run by users for users and everything is done on a voluntary basis. Constructive criticism is usually taken into account to make the group better.

Re: calibration skewed

paul larner

now after clearing all the cal data and doing more cals in pos0 pos1 and pos2,ie hf vhf and uhf in the respective save positions, with ch0 open it reads on recall pos0 reads 2000-1 swr,on pos 1 open reads 2.1-1 swr and on pos 2 reads 2.07-1,any ideas whats wrong with this fooking pile of poo?

Re: host software for nanovna, for linux users.

Got Py3.8 in the box and PIP too now it complains of other yet more mysterious missing items.
I also had (result of doing regular updates to mint) python 3.5 but that was no better.

Still trying to get scipy and qt5py in the box, complaints from pip are many.

ive done this,im trying to upload new firmware,i can talk to it with the terminal ok,but i cant seem to write to it using the dfu demo program,it sees the vna ok says its uploaded fine and set to verifie the upload but nothing is changed on the vna,in the tatget window in dfu demo if i click on the entrys there it gives all the available sectors but in the info section has a cross in every box, sort of telling me i cant write to any memory locations, ive tried it with a jumper wire and without, also tried using win 7 and xp,i want to load the firmware with bigger fonts!,im pulling my hear out,i just cant seem to write data to it,whats going on,am i missing something or is my vna duff?

Re: Wiki and File Pages #wiki

FAQ idea --- How about the proposed "sticky" wiki page being the destination for a FAQ shown on a new version of Larry's cover page image (and added to our footer appended to e-mail delivery?)

Of course, we'd need content for that page - anyone??

Thanks,

Dave

Re: Using an external RF bridge with NanoVNA

Hi Herb
I bought one form Ebay in the right color and with a silkscreen stating www.transverter-store.com <> but with the faulty mounting, where the two set of input paralleled 2x100 ohm resistor was not interconnected, as a pcb track was missing, and the center conductor of one of the cables was connected to the screen where "the real thing" left it open in both end. By a closer inspection the silkscreen the type was fatter and the decimal dot missing in the 1.1 - 3000MHz and like wise after the www in transverter. Elso the clone has exactly the same layout incl. number of ground via. This is a very good example of "lost moral" of the clone vendor.
However on the www.transverter-store.com <> the schematic has a 6dB attenuator on the output side but the images of the PCB show no attenuator but a 0 ohm resistor so nobody is perfect ?

Kind regards

Kurt

Anytime you have a popular device, be it the transverters.com bridge or NanoVNA, device cloner's eventually hit the market place. At that point the principle of "caveat emptor" (buyer beware) puts the onus on the buyer to perform due diligence before making a purchase.

Re: Wiki and File Pages #wiki

Jeez. This discussion really degenerated into a an IBM reminiscence session. Everyone get back to work and onto topic.

I want to suggest that somehow the term "FAQ" could be used to direct new people into the wiki. The FAQ is where they often start on forums but it doesn't seem to be a groups.io thing. I think it might draw some peoples attention.

The 403 error I see means the site is up but it is rejecting my browser requests so it's most likely at my end.
I'll have to try when I get home. It can't be a browser error and it's not my Symantec AV as I get the error on my phone as well.
Maybe the ISP rogers.com is filtering?

Larry,
? ? I prefer to preserve my cache right now so I didn't clear it.? I did try my cellphone and Chromebook, which use a different browser and was able to connect to transverters.com.? Clicking on the rf bridge <buy now> button sent me to my Paypal account so that must stay live if the site is actually down.

Re: Using an external RF bridge with NanoVNA

That is strange.

I'm on Rogers Broadband and Fido mobile data (which is Rogers) and even now, I get the 403 error on FF, Chrome and IE.
Maybe Putin is punishing Kanada for some stoopid reason?

Re: Using an external RF bridge with NanoVNA

I use the green eBay bridge in my 3GHz VNA and it works very well. up to 3GHz
Color is not everything.. for examples:
* this probably good blue bridge is for sale on eBay by transverters-store:

If buying again, I would probably pick that one..

The seemingly most common green bridge has "www.60dB.com" lettering,
and its presumptive designer also sells on eBay:

They also sell a shielded version:

Both of the above vendors are based in Ukraine.

Owen Duffy reviewed a 60dBm.com unit,
but which vendor he used is unclear,
since he allowed that his may be a clone.

Another green bridge has substantially different construction, e.g.:

This listing interestingly includes AV3656B screen shots,
so arguably returnable if received item cannot match those results,
but lacks an SMA port for reference...
