Re: NanoVNASaver QT Platform problem (won't load)

Gyula and Cristo -

Thanks! I installed MS VC ++ (multipack 2005-2017) as suggested, but Saver still gave the same error message.

To others: My Vista machine is my "old friend" and I will keep using it as long as possible. It has so much 'stuff' I need and use that migrating would/will be a very long, very frustrating and very difficult job. Or I would have done it already. I do already have a lower-end Dell laptop with Win_10_Prof., but it's such a big change, using Win10, that so far, I don't. I got the Dell so that I could use PSKReporter, which also doesn't work with Vista any more. It did last year, though.

I'm not desperate to use Nanovna-saver, I Just thought it would be very useful. I suppose that, now that I think of it (and know about the limitations) that I can set up the Dell/Win10 machine to use with the nanovna. But need a couple more SMA cables and adapters first anyway.

Rune -
Thanks for the explanation! Now I know that it can't work, that there is no way to fix it (on this computer). That was the reason for making this post.

Doug

Re: NanoVNASaver QT Platform problem (won't load)

Doug,
"A few years" is an eternity in the Linux world.
Install the current version of Linux Mint in that partition - you will be pleasantly surprised with it.
And yes, you will be able to run Nanovna-Saver very nicely under Linux Mint, just ensure you have the correct libraries installed per the Wiki notes.

You also didn't mention whether or not it would help with nanovnasaver.

Device 005: ID 0a5c:2121
Device 012: ID 0a12:0001
These both appear to be USB dongles that e.g
plug into PC for playing Bluetooth from smartphones.

* nanoVNA cannot physically drive these without additional hardware
* nanoVNA lacks storage for firmware to drive them,
much less interact appropriately with smartphones,
which would by default suppose that nanoVNA is a (PC) host..

For anybody interested in USB / bluetooth dongle hardware - I have these two , both capable passing "audio data" (?) -
I did nor research that any further. Older stuff / versions in range $5 US.

Re: Looking for firmware with battery indicator, 1500 and big font

yeah, this is typical mistake to do something right after clearconfig.
You're needs to power off/power on after clearconfig.
If you don't power off device after clearconfig, it will leads to restore bad config.

I need to integrate Eclipse GUI with NanoVNA "stuff"

Re: Looking for firmware with battery indicator, 1500 and big font

clearconfig 1234
Power off, then back on, for clear to take effect

Now try to re-cal.

Minute, basically two 50ohm loads on a SMA tee

Re: Looking for firmware with battery indicator, 1500 and big font

Actually, if you have a continual problem trying to calibrate, go to the console mode and run the following command:
clearconfig 1234
Now try to re-cal.? I found that fixed my issue when the 'reset' did not work.

Erik,

Do you know how much capacitance was present in parallel with the 25 ohm load?

Re: Chasing ghosts??? One ghost found #internals #calibration

The non-linearity is even better visible at S21 with different levels of attenuation.
I used 0dB, -10dB, -20dB, -30dB attenuators and thru calibration derived from 0dB (that is why 0dB is a straight line as ) and moved them all to 0dB (which they are not)
Above 600MHz its worst
These attenuators are usable till 3GHz so I assume (to be verified on 3GHz VNA) this pattern is not caused by the attenuators

Re: Chasing ghosts??? One ghost found #internals #calibration

i think tdr 3x "reflection" is aliases. See dg8saq vna software. Valid range computed by software.

Re: Chasing ghosts??? #internals #calibration

I repeater the nanoVNA measurements while running the nanoVNA from a clean 5Volt supply
No differences in measuring the 25ohm resistor or the cables

Re: Chasing ghosts??? One ghost found #internals #calibration

The reduced power measurement makes more sense
So highpass filter is wanted on stimulus for harmonics modes.

Re: Chasing ghosts??? #internals #calibration

Adding a ferrite core improved results with USB connection:
Unfortunately ferrite don't helps
On my unshielded black "worse" nanoVNA before adding ferrite,
differences in Smith and logmag noise for 50 Ohm CH0 termination in 100-1200MHz sweeps
with and without USB attachment was easily seen.
