Re: Color tweak

Sorry to be such a PITA, but at this point I'm nervous about bricking it...

When I select your white.dfu, then press Upload, I get this message box:

Your device was plugged in DFU mode.
So the DFU mode Vid, Pid and Bcd will be put in the .dfu file.
Continue ?

Yes or No ? If No, what's the next step ?

Thanks,
Steve

Last firmware 29.09.2019

Re: Color tweak

Install the program, the device should be detected (switch the jumper to boot mode again). Indicate the path to the firmware and flash.

Re: Color tweak

Making progress. This time, with jumper, Windows installed the driver and it now shows in device manager. I am intentionally not touching anything until I get the next step from you.

I have downloaded DfuSe Demo, but haven't tried to use it. I have been using Ubuntu dfu-util up to this point for everything.

Thanks,
Steve

Re: Dead NanoVNA

Steve,
Other users have posted that DfuSeDemo can be unsafe to use and result in a "Dead" unit. It seems to happen infrequently, but when it does you can no longer use DfuSeDemo to revive your unit. The advice from those users who have experienced this is to purchase a ST-LINK to perform upgrades. They say ST-LINK even works on "Dead" units. ST-LINK is less than $5 on eBay and may be worth a shot.

Re: Color tweak

Do you have a ST-link V2 programmer?

Re: Color tweak

DMR

I, and not only, used this firmware many times, I did not see anything like it. Try using a different computer if there is a pop-up message when a new device is detected. (close the contacts of the boot, turn on the power, remove the jumper)

Re: Color tweak

All I have is Windows 7x64. It does not show in device manager at all.

Looks like CLEAR_MEMORY_DFU has bricked it. :(

Re: Color tweak

DMR

Use Windows10x64.
The device should be defined as "STM Device in DFU Mode"

Re: Color tweak

I'm doing this on ubuntu.

Re: Color tweak

Edited

I think that since you were not able to flash the firmware with changes in the color scheme, you have the driver for the firmware mode through dfu installed incorrectly. When connecting again, how is the device defined in the device manager?
What is the bit depth of the operating system, and the Windows system itself?

stm32 cannot be corrupted, since the bootloader is permanently sewn, and it is impossible to change or erase it.

Re: nanovna Battery Specifications

for once and all: SPECIAL HANDLING and SPECIAL MARKING of packages sent by Air Transport is ONLY REQUIRED (by International Agreement) WHEN THE TOTAL AMOUNT OF STORED ENERGY EXCEEDS 100 WH.

"WH" means Watt-Hour. the shippers form specifies this value is computed using the total Ampere-hours times Battery Voltage contained within a package. if the total is 100WH or more, then a specific sticker is to be placed on the outside of the package and certain carrier procedures are to be followed.

100 WH = 0.45 Ah * 3.7V * 60 .. it would take 61 individual 450mAh 3.7V batteries IN ONE PACKAGE to exceed 100 WH.

yes, i am a bit irritated by an electronics vendor who would not include one lithium "coin battery" in the package for their product because of "international air transport restrictions"!

Re: WTB: Bricked Nanovna

I may very well have one for you. Standby.

Dead NanoVNA

While trying to get my NanoVNA to recognize a new color scheme, I Installed CLEAR_MEMORY_DFU.dfu on the suggestion of another member.

Tried to install any dfu after that - with and without the jumper. No good.
"No DFU capable USB device available."

Suggestions ?

Re: Color tweak

Well, that bricked it !

Installed CLEAR_MEMORY_DFU.dfu.

Tried to install any dfu after that - with and without the jumper. No good.
No DFU capable USB device available.

Next suggestion ?

Erik,
I use the HP8568/HP8444/Directional Coupler for scalar network and return loss measurements. That combination takes up a lot of real estate and gets the evil eye from my wife every time she passes it. I generally use a RF Explorer or Triarchy TSA4G1 USB SPECAN for spectral analysis because they are more convenient. I do some buy, repair, and sell on the side to other ham's who perform their own suitability tests with the portable equipment I provide. I get a lot of repeat sell that way. I only use the nanoVNA for vector and scalar network measurements within its ever increasing capabilities.

Herb

Re: plastic case

Agree?? You should at least report to thingiverse. Thanks for a great design. My 3d print works great!!

Well it would have been nice for the seller to provide the required attribution for my design.

I have no problem with people selling this, but it's a bit rude not to provide the link. They haven't even taken their own photos, just copied those of Thingiverse makes.

Re: NanoVNA does not want to start -solved

that "replace 10uF with 22uF to fix IP5303 issues" is a myth, except of course one got shitty caps in the first place. I got 2 other IP5303 and they behaves exactly same (on a test board). It might be, that there is "always on IP5303" version, like for IP5306, but the standard IP5303 will always turn off - after defined or preprogrammed timeout - once current consumption goes below 45mA. Maybe hugen79 can explain, why he decided to use IP5303.

Re: Another modified nanoVNA software

I would love to try out your software. Please email me at ke8mfn@ gmail.com without the space. Thank you very much.

Re: NanoVNA-Saver 0.0.12

It just runs as a .exe. I've not seen a fault like that before, and it's
not exactly giving a lot of information to work from.

How long did you wait for it to launch?

I'm running Windows 10 on a $700 ACER desktop. Nothing special that I know
of. Is 0.0.12 supposed to install or just run as a .exe program? I am
protected by Kaspersky Total Security but I have given permission for
0.0.12 to execute. No problem with NanoVNAsharp. Thanks.
