I suggest taking a look at nanovna saver. It runs on/based on python and is almost platform independent

I have also used a regular microUSB cable with an inexpensive microUSB to USB Type -C converter. Worked okay.

Also NanoVNA-Q firmware has si5351 status checking, so if there is a problem, you will see PLL indicator on the screen. And also it allows to pause sweep and connect NanoVNA to PC and read paused
