John – Not being a DXpedtioner I can’t help you. Kip has been on several operations and may have some idea. However, this would be a great question to ask some of the premiere DXpedition operators at Visalia next month. I’m certain they would be more than happy to share their thoughts and experiences.

I’ve become curious about what DXpedition teams run on their laptops.? In the attached example photo, the screen is a duplicate of the screens at all the other positions on the Spratly team.? Interestingly, I’ve seen pix from other DXpeditions where their screens look the same.

?

What are they running?? Other than the window in the upper left that shows sunrise/sunset, what are the other windows?? Do you recognize anything??

?

FYI.? I watched a video of the 9M0W op yesterday morning.? 4 operators with that same screen, and as the camera moved around, I could see the rig frequencies.? All CW.? One op, I think K9JM, was using a bug to send.? The other 3 (JT1CO, 9M6KOM, 9M6RHM) were all using their keyboards, actively working stations.? There was a 5th op, KO8SCA, but it looked like he was just playing with logs and watching the camera.

?

It’s caught my imagination.? If you were DXpeditioning, what would you place on YOUR computer?? I’m not speaking generically, as in “a logging program”, which is obvious.? How about for a contest??

Only newer PNW artists can create with yellows and blues.

As with all their art, they depict the animals and the stories and legends associated with them.? Often, there can be multiples in one image, e.g., a salmon in the belly of a bear.

I was initially thinking of an Orca, but there’s a neighboring DX club that uses the name.? Salmon are too common.? The only bears around here are blacks and their reputation is cowardly.? Ravens are aggressive, but are annoying.? Beavers are vegetarians, of course, but are good to each other and work well in groups, building dams (homes) quickly and efficiently.?
