Hey folks, I just discovered that 444.850 is running in carrier squelch. That is why you are hearing all the noise bursts. For some reason CTCSS is being asserted to the controller from the repeater. This is not normal. I will have Joe drop by the site and make sure the connectors are seated on the cable between the R/T and the controller. jay w5gm

From: Montague Radio <wx5arc@...> Sent: Friday, December 18, 2020 7:03:41 PM To: Montague Radio <wx5arc@...> Subject: Communication Towers attacked in WFT All, I was alerted that a 500’ communication tower hosting the .140 amateur repeater, the NWS, and other commercial operations had the guy wires cut, felling the tower in a field in Wichita Falls in the early morning hours. As if that was not enough, the perpetrators also attacked one set of guys on the 1500’ KFDX Channel 3 tower but were not successful in that effort - thankfully. A huge loss of life could have resulted in the catastrophic collapse of any of these guyed verticals. Consider this an MCARC alert that communications towers in N. Texas are fair game. ERSians, I just learned that one of my best elmers for everything motorola has passed away. Marion Blanton KC5DPC of Slidell, Tx. lost his incredible battle with esophagus cancer. He was a huge supporter of the Denton club with his vast Motorola experience and knowledge. On a personal level, he helped the N5ERS club with our 900mhz repeater and radio programming. He was like Santa Claus unless you pissed him off then he was like a honey badger. He served our country proudly as a Marine and was a true patriot. I will really miss him. I really hate the year 2020 so far. It has brought nothing but pain, suffering and heartbreak. Please keep Marion in your thoughts and prayers. jay - w5gm

Hey folks, It's been awhile since I last posted. The ERS was represented this weekend out at the Grapevine repeater site. Joe N3JI led the effort assisted by Chris K5VPQ. I understand AG5HV even dropped by as well as KE5GDB. Joe got the replacement A/C unit installed, so the shelter was pretty damn comfy! I'm sure stats will be posted soon. ------- Updates etc. Just in case you missed it, the Wylie site was dismantled and the gear sold off last year. A dew months ago, I sold the Decatur site to Jon Moon and David Stephens of the NCTC. So we are down to just grapevine. 444.850. I still have plans to deploy a 220 machine, as soon as I can repair the duplexer I have. Hopefully I can pull that off the back burner soon. I am done with flight school and am just waiting for my check ride. I am a pilot now, but after check ride, I can be a full pilot and fly anything I am rated to fly. I am pretty stoked. Good afternoon, I've got a rooftop 6m beam that I need to remount, and could really use some help, because I'm unable to do the climb. I barely got the old rotor removed, but my fear of heights and falling got me. It's a garage roof, one story, tripod mount, 5 feet of mast, rotor, then another 5 feet of mast and the 6m3. It just needs to be dropped in the rotor, tightened up, and a grounding wire replaced. I'm willing to pay, not looking for a freebie here.
